Mk1 1.2 energy engine..... 3k idle?!?!

Hi lads,

had a '93 mk1 come into the yard a while ago,
idling it's tits off

Its a carborator engine.

i took off the airbox to look at the throttle body and it's spotless!
You could eat your dinner off it.

i cleaned the coolant sensor....it went to 1.5/2k revs for a minute and then bang on 3k again
I sprayed wd40 on the top of the inlet manifold...no change with the idle,


any idea what's wrong?

Not sure about these engines but sounds like maybe an air sensor issue.

Sounds like the idle screw is wound right in/
