Mk1 172 reving to 7000rpm

  Ph1

When is the rev limiter ment to kick in on a mk1 172 ???

Its just that mine used to come in at about 6500 and now I can hit 7000rpm and then I bottle it and change up.....this all happen after my 36k service ......have i still got the limiter there ??? or is 7000rpm + normal for a mk1 172 ???

Im a bit scared of reving it past this in case it blows up !!!....its good fun though

Will not blow up as you will have a rev limiter so you can not blow it up

I think it is about 7300 rpm in first

7200 rpm in second

and 6550 in 3 4 & 5

Jot a bit cary away in second last week and bounce off the limiter in second at 7?????????????

Different limiter in different gears?? Never knew they did that, thought it was the same in all gears?

Its 7250rpm i think in every gear except 5th where its 7000rpm.

You wont blow it up,mine has an R-sport ECU which lets it rev to 8000rpm and mine aint blew up yet.

Read it in lots of sights and was on top gear or somthing 1 + 2 have a biger rev limiter than 3 4 & 5

I think that 1 may be 7500 i no that it is faster than a mk 2 in 1 + 2 .
Green shift light comes on at about 6500 in 3

Mine is a late Y plater so i dont have a shift light fitted.

Didnt know about the different rpm in different gears thing.

Why did it only rev to about 6500 before the do you think when I went for the 36k service theyve adjusted something ???

Only problem is know I want to rev the nuts off it every time I go out !!!! HeHe good fun all the same

6.5k until its warmed up ... 7.2k thereafter. So perhaps your car previously thought it wasnt warming up ... oil temperature has to be above 80 degrees or something until itll lift the limiter.

This sounds like most sensible sugestion in my humble opinion. Ive never actuallly bounced mine yet,wee green light has been on though

Before i had my R-sport ecu,i hit the limiter in first 4 gears and it was 7250 every time unless its cold it only revs to just over 6k and gets higher as it gets warmer. And limit in 5th is defo 7000rpm.

Yours must have been f**ked if only revving to 6500 all the time unless a temp sensor was f**ked and now theyve replaced it at service, did they mention it.

Or as it actually is...

7250rpm in 1st, 2nd & 3rd, then 7000rpm in 4th and we believe no limiter in 5th
