Mk1 172 - What should I look out for

I am going to view a Mk1 172 this weekend at a dealers. Can you guys give me some advice as to things to look out for? i.e common problems/faults that come up etc

The car is Titanium on 2000/w with 52K up at £5995

Knocking noise from the engine pisses me off not much yuo can do about that one apart from that not much else i dont think would check if the timing belts been changed

Yeah it sounds nice but a bit too far for me, I m based in Surrey and need a deeler to offload a ratty golf onto!

Looks clean but it does look strangely high at the front.. Make sure you get that checked out mate..

Look at uneven brake wear on the rear discs, check on the condition of the exhaust (back box and centre section) oh and check under the carpet in the boot, make sure it and wet back there alot of 172s start to leak in the boot after age

What is the score re cambelt changes on 172s. Should this one at 4/5 yrs and 54K have had one already?
