Mk1 Clio weight loss

Serious stripping Notorious is the only person who'd managed to get 100kgs out for a Mk1 that I can think off

  ExigeV6|Q5|DS3|Fiat
100kgs is alot of wieght to strip, pretty much everything in the car has to go to achieve this.

60~70kgs maybe.
There a load of weight which can be removed depends hwo dedicated you are for example
Remove all excess metal material around the door so its just litrally a sheet of metal.
Rmeove the second horn (you only need one)
Lightweight battery
Remove the jack and ay other unnessessary bolts.
Arch liners
Remove the washer jet bottle or least run it on empty.
Single wiper conversion or jsut disconnect one side of the wiper and remove it
Remove the wear wiper and all associated plumping then remove the rear washer pump and block the hole up with some sealant.
Rmeove the rear strut or least one of them anc again cut away all the excess material.
Remove the bump strips
Remove all the little plastic clips.
Remove the top of the dash.
Remove the stereo or least all the extra speeakers and wiring.
Fibre glass bonnet not a huge saving.
Remove all external trim bits round the lights grill etc.
Remove the spare wheel holder thingie.

Notorious on here has some poly carbon windows for sale from his car so you can fit them and remove the window winders etc.

I have some pro race 2's, which are pretty light, dunno how far I would go with the rest of the car yet as im a bit limited at the moment on what I can do. What are poly-carbon windows like for everyday use??

  mk1 phase 3
could chop your legs off!

nah, you'd have to take a fair bit out to achieve that.

my bro's got plastic windows in his vts i wouldnt reccomend it for everyday use, they sound like there about to fall out.

You're joking right???

Fibreglass skin weighs in at about 4kg, std bonnet is 20kg+

Lightweight wheels, all sound deadening, lightweight buckets, poly carb windows, rear wiper and motor, not worth top dash and plasrtic clips they weigh that little, charcoal canister and bracket are a good 7kg, running one bucket will help, get ph1 doors without side impact bar, fibreglass tailgate, remove shite from behind arch liners, remove sunroof and rivetr a sheet of metal over it, ut really you need a cage before you can do this as it adds structural ridigity to the roof, get rid of air bag steering wheel

FOR SALE: '97 Clio 1.4 RT
I weigh 45kg... about half what my friends weigh... thats my car's diet! :p
Finally an advantage to being a short, skinny b*****d!

100 kg is quite easy - I'm nearly at 200 kg loss but that is a fair bit more work like stripping the loom of unused circuits, cutting out panels, replacing the windows, etc.

To get to 100 kg loss you could do the following 'big ticket' items:

Passenger seat and belts
Rear Seats
Carpets
Sound insulation mats and 'tar'
Parcel shelf
Door cards
Rear seatbelts
Carbon cannister
Radio
Rear wiper and motor
Wheel brace, jack, spare wheel and cradle
GRP bonnet (only cost item in the list, but a useful easy saving of >13kg)

By the way, my carbon cannister only weighed 1.325 kg, so not as big a saving as I was hoping and may not be worth the hassle. You'd get as much by removing the sun visors and grab handles, for example, which is probably easier.

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk1
Weighed a few items last night on bathroom scales (all Mk1)
Spare wheel ~ 15.8
jack pack ~ 4.2 (jack wheel brace etc)
Rear seat lower and head rest 8.4kg

Thats all the info I have so far.. Rear seats backs and seat belt must be close to 10kgs

Sounds like the standard seat are 22kgs

Stevie has got it covered above...100kgs can be acheived through total gutting of the interior, lighter wheels & lightweight buckets....etc

I'm onto more than 100kg removed with the stock seat. Gotta put my new seat and harnass in, then get poly windows and a GRP bonnet and that should be plenty more off. I did it by drilling/cutting chunks out of the shell everywhere that wasn't structural, such as the door frames and bootlid frame.

I reckon once I get the bonnet and windows in and I can get rid of some more associated parts it should be under 800kg. I also need to remove the ABS unit and fit non ABS front hubs.

I wouldn't recommend it if you enjoy music or a comfortable drive. Mine is only fun when I thrash it its horrible to drive if you're just pootling about.

he circa 1000kg weight includes fuel. Drop the fuel out and run 10 quids worth and you are down to 950 before you start. The last 50 kg just involes removing the spare wheel and rear seats and replacing the front seats with lightweight buckets.

Car will be circa 900 kg like this.
