Mk1 Golf in brief so far

Is it full of rot that they were unaware of until they made a closer inspection or something? Poor showing to agree work/quote etc then back out.

you know what i dont even know any more,

from what i can work out it needs the ignition control module and fuel pump wiring in... then thats it... :s
carbs are on, brakes are done, wiring is plug n play so i cant see that being the problem, i really dont know, they havnt really told me what they have done so i wont know untill i see it.

im really struggling to maintain motivation with this, do i just cut my losses and break it? or buy another one and put the good bits on that??? i dunno

they dont need to touch body work, there is zero rust/rot on it now as i did all that before it went away.

I thought it was having paint didn't realise it was mechanical work being looked at.

nope no paint, ive spent too much on carting the fucker round the coutry to be abkle to afford that anymore
i really cant.

Minor bump in the road mate! Keep on it!

i just want it finished or at least to a point where it looks like a car again.. atm i have a very very expensive shell and a complete lack of people willing to help in any constructive way :(

Assume it's out with your capabilities? Always assumed you were fairly handy with a spanner?!

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
im terrible with electrics, the spannering i can so thats no problem but when it come to wirinf stuff in im afraid i have no idea, the plan was that my ex was going to do it but we fell out and i moved it out, but now it looks like hes my only option as i cant do this my myself. i think my bro and dad are going to have a look this weekend n see what we can work out

just going to see what i can work out, i ovly have 2 weeks to get it sored and off the drive its going to be pushing it, im so stressed about it all its untrue

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
i know it will be but i cant cant see that at the moment, i just need to get it so it runns then ill be happy f**k the rest of it, i can do that but im not a mechanic, ive tried to pay 2 garages now who have just fucked me over. its disheartening to say the least

Just bite the bullet and get the Ex on it?... He should be able to do the remaining bits with his eyes closed.. Wiring still scares the s**t out of me and with carbs it soooo simple.

I thought it was going down for paint aswell? Im even more gutted for you now FFS!!!!!

Don't loose heart.. I will help where I can.. The Golf has given you mega stress but you can't let it beat you now! Imagine how cool you will look in it cruising about in the sun with your shades on.. Thats all that keeps me cracking on with mine lol

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
ive text the ex, hes not replied, he makes me work so hard for any help, tbh i know hes been right all along and that i shouldnt have gone about things with it the way i did but when emotion is envolved its difficult..

winston.. its in exactly the same state as when it went down :s

f**king emotions eh :(

Ive only met him a few times... shall I drop him a PM on edition asking him to help me fix my car.. when he turns up it will be your golf lol

My mate thats helping me wire mine is on holiday for 2 weeks.. What fuel pump are you using, the bike one? and do you need an ignition module/amp? do you have the ignition loom? I will get hunting for the bits you need and if I can find them you can use the parts from my car till they show up etc

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
using a facet fuel pump. the ignition amp is a new one, one of the lads that worked here made it up as thats how he did it on his (jaffa the orange caddy with a 1.8 in it) but hes been sacked now so i dont know which wire goes where lol. so it probably would be easier if i could find one that just plugs in.

your a star winston :D thanksyou, but no lets not try n trick him, i know he will help me hes not a dick at all, just will be on his terms. understandable, i cant just expect him to drop everything. ill give him a bell after work,

plan this weekend is to get the roof lining in that then means i can get the windows back in. tricky one will be the screen... i can see me breaking that lol

the transport guy just rang me, hes lovely so thats kinda put my mind at rest regarding that. :)

It was only a joke to try and lightern the mood.. Im sure he will help esp after the nightmare you have been through.

I will see what I can do about a loom.. Im just using the one from my Kjet 8V. I will get on the hunt..

If you left wiring the pump up to me it would be wired to the headlight switch with twisted wires and insolation tape like a propper pikey lol

Windscreen... be careful they do love to pop, use an old seal & lots of lube.....

basically i should have known better than to trust a garage to do as they said,

2 garages have taken it on and then decided against it, its not pretty i know that but its not rocket sience.

Southern Style?

Didn't Alice and I warn you?

They've not got the best rep though, you know that. lol.

Shame though, it'd be a shame to throw the towel in so close to completion.

im just going to crack on this weekend, n hopefully make some decent progress, if i just concentrate on the interior it will at least look less of a shell, if i can get the roof lining, carpet, seatbelts, rear bench and front seats in then its not a massive job from there... i think its just because it looks so teriffying, its a bare shell essentially. but the interior can go in, n we can see whats missing.. that will be fun lol

just trying to make a list in my head

well went up to my old unit to collect the rest of my sruff last night, chris was awesome, hes agreed to do the work i cant do, he has a few other projects on the go atm but if i can do as much as i can it shouldnt take much for him to finish the rest of it.

car is not on its way back, will be deliverd back tomorrow morning but then im off to a wedding party in wales so work will start on sat

southern style i wouldnt trust them with a box of spanners! their work is shoddy and they dont do half the things they say they will! i did warn you... if you were closer i would give you a hand

well sheeees home, im a little worried bout the feelings i have towards this car, id forgotted how much i love this heap of metal ... maybe its replaced men for me :S hahaha

so anyway im pissed off that who ever bled up the brakes while it was away has spilt brake fluid all down my wing and in my freshly painted engine bay so patches where its all bubbled.. no idea how im going to rectify that.

so anyway pics :D

my dad had been a little star and put her under cover while i was out at a party

_MG_5388.jpg
cheesy

uncovered

IMG_5392.jpg

so the unpacking started

IMG_5393.jpg

IMG_5394.jpg

and ive now converted my dads shed into a parts emporium

IMG_5395.jpg

so today ive:

cleared out the inside
put the front door windows back in
wired in the dash loom (most of)
tightened the rear suspension
removed old roof lining

IMG_5401.jpg

old roof lining out , when my chinese has gone down im going to mark up the new roof lining and swap the cables out, im a little worried that the guide says allow 8 hours to remove n refit the roof lining but it took me roughly 5 mins to take the old one out and id say a hour to refit, i guess the book time included removing the windows and front screen

That's exactly what I want :( Love the colour too. I'd swap my daily runner for this any day.

_MG_5413.jpg

IMG_5429.jpg

also before i did the headlining i painting the inside black :D very happy with it
cut a rear load liner out, have black to go over the top thats just the nice spongey bit
IMG_5425.jpg

oh and put the rear windows back in..

so chuffed with todays progress, its starting to look like a car again and im one happy bunny lol

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
old one for now... id rather get it all done as it should be then if it doesnt run im not f**king about with a load of custom wiring that could just make matters worse :D
