MK1 Wheel Arch Rust

  Renault Clio MK1
Hey :D I've got a 1992 1.4 Fidji. Bought it for 30 quid a couple of weeks ago. Its got abit of a problem with rust on the near side rear wheel arch! (Pics below). Just wanted some advice on the best way to sort it out. I also came across this - http://www.nicedeals.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=3432
I dont suppose anyones had any experience using one of those wheel archs?

Any decent body shop will be able to sort it, but mk1's are notorious for rear arch rust, most of the time (if not done properly i'll come back) They rust from the inside outwarss. A new rear arch (as you've shown) would solve your problem, but it would end up being expensive (unless you know the garage, or can do it yourself)

it would be expensive. Think about it carefully and ask yourself if you can really be bothered with the expense and hassle for the car.

oh, and never, ever use everycarpart.com, just incase you were thinking of it for the panel

Mk1s were made with rusty arches...then sills :(

Yours is pretty bad, i think mine was just as bad. What i did was took it to bare metal as much as i could (not too much because i didnt want to lose the shape) and then used filler and primer. Also used some fibreglass. Got them painted but just under a year they have come back.

If your planning on keeping the car, best bet is to go to a garage. They will cut out the rust and weld the new piece on. You might need a larger panel because its pretty bad. Check your sills too, might be pretty bad from the inside.

I'll be cutting my arches again later on this summer fingers crossed

Cheers for all your advice! I was intending to give ago my self. I've got all the tools and a garage. How would you tackle the problem? Use one of the panels I showed or a different method? Cheers
