Mk2 Ph1 HIGH IDLE HELP PLEASEE :(

My cousin has a 1998 mk2 ph1 and its got a problem :s

start it up and it idles at about 2300/3000 RPM , does anyone know what the problem might be, i thought the throttle body might be gammy and stuck open , but the throttle calbe appears to pull it fully open and then back to its rest position (just by looking at the engine)

Which engine is it?? I could be a air leak or a problem with the icv.

Throttle cable sticking? Have you took the inlet pipe off to see if the butterfly is fully closing

the cable appears to take the throttle to full throttle andn all the way back (the metal bit turns through a full 90 degrees )

didnt take off the inlet pipe to see the throttle body, might it be dirty/sticking?

Leekage on a breather pipe?

Carbon Filter pipe has come off and is sucking in air?

both of those brought the idle up on my 1.2 8v also I had a high idle once when the car was running out of fuel.
