Mk2 Phase 1 CD Player/vent surround

I am wondering if the vent surround (the piece that is silver in 172s) comes out seperately from the rest of the dashboard. I don't want to try prying it off with a screwdriver because it looks to me as if it doesn't.

As you may have guessed, I want to paint it silver. So will I just have to mask off the dashboard or can I take it out?

Mask The Dash. Much less hassle than taking it out.. Mask all the front of the car as its worth it to prevent overspray. The Surround Doesn't clip out its tabs are plastic welded in.
