Mk4 Clio...

  Fabia VRS & Yeti
Just read a bit on the Gordini Twingo due for release and the new RS and GT branding Renault are launching in this months EVO.
I can't remember the guys name but I'm sure it was some project manager/director of something or other they were talking to and he apparently hinted at a turbo charged Clio Mk4 and that they were very impressed with a certain BMW twin turbo engine.
Should be very interesting, unless it gains more weight!

  172 Cup
If they did go that route, I reckon (dissapointingly) it will be a a small turbo'd engine, maybe a 1.4 etc.

Gordini Twingo looks pretty smart though.

Well a 1.6t would suffice I suppose, seeing at how much power the new mini cooper s has and a 2.0t would be in danger of overshadowing the Meg!

  Clio 200 Black and White
I saw a Mk4 Clio Sport concept in a German car magazine a few months back. Looks like it'll be a 1.6 turbo like the VXR, mini etc.

This should mean more torque, the same peak power and better MPG. I just hope they don't lose the revviness of the F4R.

Interesting, think they need to do it to keep up with others, especially with the added tunability, but will it be as much fun...

I love revving my 172 all the way, feels so natural and like it could keep going, will be a shame if they lose that.

If the 200 is as stable and planted as everyone says then obv it could handle more power. I did quite like the idea of a 200 next in a year or so but if a turbo is confirmed I'll wait!

The 200 was only just released. I guess it'll be at least three years before they roll on the next version.

late 2010 early 2011 would be my guess on the next 'new' Clio

Is this the one? I got my 200 when i did so i could then move onto one of these if im still interested. Its meant to be coming out around 2011 believe it or not the same time i get rid of the 200 :D

I may get caned here but the 200 is an update on the 197 is it not?
Kind of like a 172 phase 1 to phase 2 update? It not a totally new car rather a thorough update?

I like that, a lot, bearing in mind it is just a concept!

I just re-read the article and the 'guy' EVO spoke to was Stephen Marvin, Renaultsport Engineering boss and apparently Renault are 'very impressed' by a twin turbo BMW engine!

I really like that shame its just a concept and probably won't look like that given that the next Clio is probably at least 3 years away.

The engine sounds interesting, hope the turbo doesn't mean an end to the high rpm fun though

it is a shame n/a seems to be leaving designers/engineers thoughts in favour of twin charging small cc engines, seems they have more than one eye on emisions/mpg now, rather than keeping heritage and sticking to a certain type of engine for the brand.
glad to see honda engineers/designers keep using n/a for there type rs.

That, to me, just looks like an artists impression of the Megane mixed with the Clio and Twingo wheels. Doubt it will look anything like that!

The above pictures are pretty old and were released around the same time as the megan 250 was announced so that would explain the similarities.

I like it.

Well the 197 came out about 2 years after the 182, so we could easily see the next CS in 2011 surely?

The manufactures have so many impact and emission regulations that unfortunately turbo charging small engines is most economically viable at the moment due to the increasing size and weight of the cars.
I'd be all for a lighter next gen Clio but it's just not going to happen!
If it is going to be turbocharged I'd much rather it be a twin turbo 2.0 unit rather than a souped up Twingo engine!

I'd prefare it to stay n/a. However it won't. I like the character of the F4R so the they'll need to make the new turbo engine carefully so it doesnt end up like a VAG turbo engine.
