More Wiper motor help

  Fiesta ST-3
Evening chaps.

Managed to get the old wiper motor off, new one on. Tested it and works fine. Put it all back together, put the wiper arms on and they are catching on the windscreen.

If I loosen them off then the arm won't move, tighten them and they catch the screen.

What am I doing wrong?

Scott.

Scott, did you just change the motor or did you replace the entire assembly? Are the wipers moving in the correct direction when they catch?

So did you unbolt the motor from the main mechanism frame? If so are you 100% sure you've re-fitted the motor in the correct position to the frame assembly? Failure to do so means the wipers work in the oppersite direction (Saw someone do this on a Corsa C and they just watched it lock up and set fire to the motor).

Yea the wipers are working in the right direction 100% but the left arm is so close to the windscreen at the very bottom, it catches the screen :(

It is scraping the screen, if I loosen it off then there is not enough force to hold the arm in place and it won't move, if I tighten it then it just gets closer to the screen.

Right, the assembly is either missing a spacer OR its not sat square on the body. Unbolt it and check.

Ok Mick, unbolted it, tried to reassemble it. I can't see that it's not square and it certainly won't change angle. I can't see any spacers mind. Took some more pictures as well.

On an additional note there is some play in this fixing

I don't have any Clio II's in the workshop this weekend to check against Scott but the motor doesn't appear to be sitting right to me. For one they're not central in the scuttle planel covers but I odn't know if this is right or not. How much "play" are we saying here to? There's bound to be a bit as its a bushed joint.

I had problems yesterday refitting a replacement mechanism to mine. Couldn't get it to sit properly. I didn't spot the "hook" which is underneath the windscreen scuttle that you have to engage with the mechanism, as well as doing up the 3 bolts which hold the mechanism in place.
It's easy to miss and makes sure that the whole thing aligns properly - its a little body coloured part that sticks out about 1cm out from the bodywork and fits in to a rubber-bushed hole near the motor.

Taken mine out today and found the same-I hadn't located the wiper in the peg/hook which sticks out! It made a grinding noise with the wiper arms off where it was catching on the washer bottle!

Ian.
