Help needed fellas :dapprove:

I took the car for its Mot today at Halfrauds and it failed on a broken offside coil spring and offside Track rod end worn to excess :(

I have been quoted £366 by them.

Thoughts please guys? I dont fancy doing the work myself btw.

It's cupped which makes a difference I've seen.

Cheers

Price is about 300 pound too much lol. Is it front or back spring? For a 182 I'm guessing? If u don't wanna do it yourself someone on here will do the work for a small price or a few beers as the work is very simple mate

That is crazy price!!!

I know you said you don't like doing stuff your self but changing a track rod and fitting a spring is not difficult.

Why halfords ? Half of the staff can't even put a bulb in a headlight without making it a massive job lol

track rod end £7-10
spring second hand £30-40 a set.

Garage cost probs and hour plus tracking( if it needs it )

You will get it done for half that I bet!

Cheers fellas, I had a feeling it was slightly on the high side lol!

I really don't want to mess about doing it - I would balls it up no doubt no matter how easy it is!

Took it there because it was half price Mot thats all and thought it may pass tbh. I am aware they are a bit dense!

Tracking was mentioned as an advisory.

C'mon then, who fancies sorting this within 10 days for me for payment of course ;)

I bet anywhere that advertises cheap/half price/bargain MOTs will never pass a car first time. Ever.

And they're Halfords.

Halfords are quickly becoming the new Kwik-Fit and at it again I see... I've just MOT'd a 172 this morning for a customer and he had a broken front coil. I supplied and fitted a used genuine spring and charged him £45 in total so do you think they're charging too much?

They lure you in with a half price mot then charge double for any work they do to get it through. Some people wouldnt have questioned it and just payed up for the work. Robbing c***'s!

I am sure you can get a second hand cup spring very cheap - possibly free mate.

And yes, correct track rod end is right but I have just fitted the ocap ones listed at the bottom of your link and they were fine :)

I hate Halfords. I typically only use them for their discounted Mobil 1 0W40 which my DC2 lives on.

The are typically staffed by dickheads aswell.

As a laugh I went into one for a cambelt change quote on my Accord Type R with a H22A7 engine. It was just under a thousand pounds or something.

I actually had it completed at Honda (my friend is a Master Tech for them) for under £300 I believe as part of their Honda Happiness scheme.

Bunch of retards!

Can only be something simple like a broken wire or bad connection.

Yeah not checked it yet as it's raining but it just proves they don't know their arse from their elbow, some cars don't even have a Hi/middle brake light ffs and it's legal!!!

I did point this out and he scribbled it out and put AMBER lol

Quick bump.

Ordered some Eibach Sportlines and been quoted £60 to fit 1 spring and the track rod end by a mates mate who is a Mechanic, does that seem reasonable?

I was tempted to have a go myself but I can't say I'm confident:eek: so will prob get the pro's in.

£60 seems fair, will only take an hour to get it all sorted. Took me 2 hours to do the suspension coils on my clio, on the drive and I would say an hour of that was sitting in the sun drinking tea and eating biscuits! ;) Track rod end should be a matter of minuets but will mean you need the cars tracking doing!

Why only fit 1 spring when you have ordered some Eibach Sportslines - you need to fit all 4.

£60 seems a fair price but as said the car needs tracking after fitting a track rod end - is this included in the price?

:D I did consider doing it myself but then I remembered I'm not very good with this type of thing!

Yeah I know, I only asked him about the one because at the time I intended to do the knackered one only but then ended up buying the Eibach kit! I am waiting on a price for all 4 now.

I don't think it includes the tracking tbh.

He mentioned I should get a top shocker mount and bearing as well but I have no idea what that is or if it needs it :S:eek: anyone know? I asked my mate to ask him but he's not got back to us yet.
