hi well i change the dogbone mount and still got a knocking. so it time change the upper gear box mount under battery..

i have been looking at some old post on here and come a cross an old post from (fred@btm) on how to replace the upper mount. now this post from (fred@btm) was posted 2 years ago in 2008 and im just wondering if nothing has change and it stiil the same way to change it.. here is wot he posted.

remove battery, unbolt the battery tray/gearbox mounting from the chassis leg (the aluminum bit)
you can leave the rubber bush alone)

unbolt the lower mount from the subframe from underneat

jack up the gearbox with the wheel off and unbolt the mount from the gearbox

bit fiddly to do, but not haed.
..........................................................................................................................................

if any one nose if this is still how it done please let me no...

cheers thanks.

No worries mate.

Support engine from underneath with jack and wood. (There is a lower gearbox mount which should stop it hitting the deck, but you can't be too careful).
Remove battery and airbox.
Remove the whole mount, which is bolted to the top of the box, and the car about three bolts to each. (14mm, from memory?)
Undo the bolts in the mount.
Swap mount. Reverse to fit.

There's a bit of loom that goes close to and around the mount which is a pain in the arse to move around..

  CLIO 172 CUP....
o.k thanks so much for that budgie nice one....

o.k just for my owen peace of mind on doing it this is how it done then yeah.

jack under the engine and abit of wood to suport the engine and keep it in place then once i have done this i then remove the battery from the car and airbox and then undo the (two 14mm nuts either side of the black round mount) then once this is done undo the the (bigger nut that sit on top of the rubber mount) then once this is done remove the mount then replace with new one...

oh...also do put the jack and wood under the gearbox side.

now pleaes tell me i have got this right. if so i can go and get on with it......

don't support the gearbox, remove the 2x13mm nuts (catch the bolts from underneath as they fall out) then undo the large 18mm nut and hit the spike sticking up with a hammer

gearbox will drop eventually, then jack it up and replace

fred@btm.... so your saying not to put the jack under the gearbox. so were is the best place to stick the jack to suport it cause if i dont suport it wont the engine just drop on the floor.....

i under stand i need the jack when replacing the mount as im gonna have to lift the engine up abit...

so im all ready to change just need to no were to jack engine from or do i even need to......

thanks ever so much for this help...budgie & fred@btm...

you don't have to support it, its easier if you don't, the engine won't go anywhere, you have to jack the gearbox up about 1inch when refitting the new mounting

you don't jack the engine at all

o.k im gonne remove the passenger side wheel as well just so i can get a better look in. also when im doing it im just gonna pop the jack under for suport as this is my first time doing it so just wont to be safe than sorry if you no wot i meen....

will let you no how i got on doing it.....

cheers guys.......

I've replaced mine last week, from what I could tell it looks like it sits on the subframe with a really big rubber so it won't fall out but it will need jacking up when your bolting the new mount on.

I removed the airbox, n/s wheel and the battery, I was then able to get the access I needed, you can fit your hand in under the battery tray from just behind the ecu and from the airbox side in order to access the bolts on both sides.

You can also just about get in from the wheel arch. It's upto you how much you want to remove.

Also worth noting that it might possibly be the big bolt that goes through the mount has sheared in half as it's a common fault, and causes really bad knocking

don't support it otherwise you'll never get the main bolt out of the mount!

Man, I need some harsh budgie help with this one. I need to replace two of my engine mounts, ones easy, top engine, but top gearbox I couldn't undo the bolt. :-(

I could also do with putting my powerflow bushes into a new dogbone too... As I slightly cracked mine being a bit heavy handed with it removing the old bushes. Boohoo. :-(

  CLIO 172 CUP....
yeah rob when i change my upper gearbox mount yesterday i also found it was hard to undo 18mm but just put some power on it and it will go. it sounded like mine snaped when it undid..and i fort f**k iv snaped some think here......but it now done and sorted feel so much better......

also will be ordewring my powerflex mount kit first thing tomorrow then i will be fitting as soon as it get here.......:D

I need to have a look at this I have a knock (single) when I let off the accelerator and over 5k a rattle which sounds like a bolt is loose.

I am guessing this is the same thing?

This pretty much sums it up.

Did mine today only took 2 hours to strip battery/airbox, unbolt mount, drop box, fit new mount, lift box, tighten and refit everything.

You will notice a bit more vibration when you replace the dogbone mount with the powerflex bushes, nothing really bad just more than standard

  172
I want to replace my dog bone mount to standard. its standard now but I was going to put a powerflex one on but the cars a daily now so not gonna do that. I can take the standard ones out as per the guide but can I push the new standard bushes in myself or do I need a garage to press them in?

Cheers
