Mounting an LCD on the wall. Clart/McBunny anyone?

  172 Cup
Not sure why but I thought I'd seen Clart or McBunny mention this before but I can't find anything using the search.

I want to mount my 42C3030DB onto the wall but being a new building the wall's are dry lined (plasterboard, metal studs, brickwork) so I was hoping someone had done something similar and could suggest what method to use when attaching the mount to the wall.

My plan was to drill through the plasterboard into the brickwork and use some kind of expanding bolts from B&Q. I know the mount won't be able to be firmly secured against the brickwork but if I use long enough bolts it should hopefully be ok?!?

Exactly.. Not exactly a sackful of replies.

Hence I thought someone on here may be more helpful unlike you :rasp:

Simply drill your fixing holes through the plasterboard and into the concrete (check if there's likely to be any cables in there first!). Then you can fit a frame fixing (this is just like a plastic wall plug, only longer to bridge the plasterboard/air gap) and screw the TV bracket on. Be careful you don't overtighten the screws, otherwise it'll pull the plasterboard further into the wall.

If it is a stud wall (unlikely, but there's always a chance) you can use plasterboard fixings. If you get the right ones, they'll easily take the weight of a 32" TV on a standard bracket. Alternatively if you're paranoid or using an extending bracket, your best bet would be to locate the studs, remove a section of plasterboard between two of them, and replace it with a piece of plywood of the same thickness screwed securely into the studwork. Then fix the bracket to this. This is the messiest aproach, and will require quite a bit of remedial work to get the wall looking good again.

It's a 42" Tom.

28KG's apparently and there's definitely an air cavity between the plasterboard and the brickwork.

Just so I can picture exactly what you're referring to can you find me a link at? I guess Screwfix or somewhere like that have them?

Cheers Tom.

Ali have you got yours mounted yet or are you still at the planning stage? Did you ever pick your wallpaper?

I've decided not to wall mount. Instead i'm using a low "modern" design table. It's stunning!

Wallpaper...y'ish. i know what to get and roughly where to get it. 'manuel Canovas' is the brand but i suspect it's fcukin expensive, i.e 150-200 a roll...So may have to rethink that one.

11wks till sofa arrives so plenty of time to ***** about.

My main reason for concern over the wall mount was the weight of the 46 and the fact i'm in a new build flat on the 4th floor...For me, it just wasn't a viable solution. But i'm glad i've gone for the stand! looks nice...Or rather it will look nice in the long run.

I mounted my Hyundai 32" on a plasterboard wall. I bought the fixings from B&Q and they were £7 for the packet.

Just use plenty of plasterboard fixings and it will be fine. Ive now got the same TV fixed to a brick wall with just 4 long screws into raw plugs.

If you want frame fixers now rather then on mail order you can get them at Wickes ;)

If its a stud partition, would it surely not be easiest to screw to the actual 3x2 or 4x2 stud's?
Usually fixed at 16" centers, be safer in mind than the butterfly plugs hanging on the the back of 12mm plasterboard..!

Just use the big plasterboard screws that look like the front bit of the thunderbird that drills in the ground...

I've used them loads in the past but will they be enough to hold 28KG's and the weight of the mount?

I'm happy to use them for £20 shelving but a bit reluctant for a £800 TV.

I mounted a Samsung 42" Plasma to a Plasta board wall .

I used 100mm plugless frame fixings, went straight through the plaster board into the breeze block behind.

I weigh 14 stones and I hung off the bracket before mounting the TV.

She aint going anywhere.

I would never mount a TV using plasterbroard scews.:S

Well maybe a 14" screen but nothing bigger.

You could come home and find your TV on the floor with a large piece of plasterboard attached to the back

I used plasterboard fixings as well. I was advised to use 8, one on each corner of the bracket and others in the middle, to spread the load. The weight distribution has meant it has not moved anywhere in the year it has been up there.

Once these fixings have been screwed into, they spread out about 40mm, so great weight distribution.

Mine is a Toshiba 32", but would take much more weight no probs.

I intend to use something like that mate.

My last post wasn't clear.. What I actually meant was I'd use some of those nylon spacers in the air cavity.

You have a re-shuffle then dude?

I thought your lounge looked good with it on the stand..

I'm going to paper that wall behind the TV so I might as well use the opportunity to cut the holes needed in the plasterboard, patch them and then obviously it will all be covered by the new wallpaper.

I've got a new HTPC too so it'll be nice to get the screen mounted and all the cables hidden.

I also got some of these on the cheap the other day so I might see what they look like behind the screen - http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/30119408

Ive got solid brick and im still not that confident about putting mine on the wall! Hmmmmm

It should be a lot simpler with a solid brick wall. The mounts aren't exactly expensive and it's easy enough to use a hammer and chisel to knock out a channel for the cables. A bit of filler and paint, job done.

I'll take some pics when I tackle mine and show you what it looks like when it's all done.
