Mounts Question.

  RS6+ & 40d MSport X5
Freshening up the ph1 172 and looking to change the mounts.

Trying to keep the costs down but not cut corners.

So, do i go for Group N mounts from K-Tec or will new Reno one's suffice till i'm more flush?

Been kind of put off the Group N one's by the thread about then not being machined properly.

Gaz.

I wouldnt let it put you off mate, its only one batch. which happens in life and they are surviving my driving, which is recommendation! lol

It depends on the car i personally think, some have the standard mounts and they have lasted fine, me for example have been through 3 sets of new mounts and they keep failing, and even though im pretty confindent with what im doing, iv had it checked every time to make sure and my car simply doesnt like standard mounts.

They do give some vibration, but its plenty liveable.

I would say if you have been fine with the standard mounts, and they are just getting a bit old, then buy standard mounts, if you want to upgrade then most defiantely go for them :)

Will probably depend on the driver too lol!

I've got circa £5k worth of reciepts in the service history of the car, couldn't see any for new mounts!

There is a fair bit of movement in the engine and gear stick when moving off.

Got sooo many other parts to buy, but as said i dont want to cut corners!

I'd go for std mounts and uprated dogbone, get the main mount from gsf for £45 and save a few pennies.

good compromise would be poly dogbone and renew the other three for std. must admit that i didn't notice a massive difference in control over the shunting when changing recently renewed std mounts for the KTEC ones, but there is a definite improvement and they 'should' last a deal longer (hopefully..)

[ed. as above]

Think i'd prefer to do that Chris. Can always upgrade later, not as if its a "big" job.

Was there a decent reduction in engine movement after renewing the OE mounts with OE?

there was on mine - changed them all at 40k (with poly dogbone) - felt very good in comparison afterwards. not so big a difference when i swapped for the two uprateable ones about 20k afterwards

So there's the top engine mount, gearbox mount (under the battery) and the twisted dogbone mount.

Is that them all?

Sorry for mini-hijack, thinking of doing this myself :)

Yes mate there is another, more of a support, it goes btween the gearbox and the subframe, a rubber block

Think that where everybody gets lost, if you put uprated ones on a brand new car you wouldn't notice much difference.
But because most people change for uprated ones after the old ones are shagged they go WOW they are great.

And they are not group N mounts, you would not pay for them on a road car as they are very expensive.

I didn't know about this one. Does anyone have a link to somewhere that sells it? Personally I think I'm going to go for standard mounts with a powerflex dogbone mount. I bet none of the mounts have ever been changed on mine yet so should make a nice difference.

There's four in total;

1, Upper engine.
2, Upper gearbox
3, Lower gearbox
4, Dogbone

The rubber block is the lower box mount.

Gaz, changing oem all round will make your car feel like new , i've done it.

It's only that they wear out pretty quickly ... mine were done twice in 70k , next time round i'm going for the Vibratechnics ones.
