My 1.4 doesnt run properly at all any help

I have a 1.4 8v clio and i dont think it is running properly at all. it is very slow off the mark. i also dnt get very many MPG 30 at best

I think this because my mate has a 1.2 corsa which is 1 year newer but it a lot quicker

Ive changed the spark plugs, had to buy a new exhaust and cat converter (which set me backk 360 in all) but yeah
anyone got any suggestions why it could be running slow and why my MPG's are low

its hard to diagnose your problem on hear you have to go to a garage and let them take a look.

i got a 1.4 8v alize and the headgasket was gone when i bought it. drove really slow and only ran on 3 cylinders. if this is your problem it will be expensive to fix! my dads a mechanic so he done it for me and i bought the car cheap because the repairs were to much for the owner to pay for an older car. my dad said if someone came to him and asked him to do it again he would charge £1000!

if its an 8v, it won't go as quick as a 1.2 corsa 16v.

good example is my fiesta 1.3 8v which has 16 less bhp than the 1.25 16v fiesta

as for fuel consumtion, couldn't say whats causing that

My mates car is 16v so that probably what it is, i dont really wanna have to give it up, driven 4 cars and it by far the best

30mpg out of a 1.4 , my 172 does 43+mpg on the motor & 36mpg round town with the "odd" blat , worst i ever got it down too was 34mpg, it was a hardcore A road run of over 7miles :evil: summit aint right there, hows the air filter? might be worth checking compression?? also worth a look uner the oil filler cap too see if you have the dredded white gunk :dead:
