I did my own steering wheel swap and i’m an idiot. There is a good guide on here somewhere. I just remember releasing the two tabs on the rear of the wheel was a pain in the arse!

I've found the guide i think... not looking forward to undoing those clips on the back of the airbag, I've got a habit of breaking things like that!!

This is the current wheel, and as you can see it's well past its sell by date 😀

looks so much better after being dropped. personally i would look at getting a smaller 330mm suede wheel as it makes such a difference to the driving experience compared to the boat like monstrosity they come with.

It's a very simple removal. Just remember to disconnect the battery for 20 minutes. It's a Torx T50 from memory.

Renault's recommendation is to replace the bolt whenever the steering wheel is removed and the part number is 8200697105 Less than a Fiver.

I've thought really hard about changing the wheel, the smaller one on my type-R is great, but I've decided I want to keep it as standard so I'm stuck with the ships wheel!

Quite a difference in height eh! Looks good Although I do enjoy the standard ride height on a Cup!

Interesting to hear your thoughts on the Yokos. Ive got PS3s on mine and they arent cheap but are very good.

I'm pleased with the yokos so far, plenty of grip when I was throwing it into the bends earlier. I thought I'd go for them over the ps3s just because the car is only for occasional dry trips. If it was a daily I'd definitely have gone for the Michelins. Ive had yoko tyres before on my classic mini and they were so soft and grippy but I didn't get much wear from them! I expect these will be the same but because of the lower mileage I'll do it doesn't really matter to me too much.

Paid just over £60 each for them so they're pretty good value in my opinion.

Fitted the new snappy trimmed wheel today and didn't break anything which was a result!

Heres the before and after snaps...

To say I'm pleased is an understatement, the interior is looking so much better. Just need to find some mint front seats and it'll be perfect!

Compared to all the Cup's here, my old girl is looking a "Council Ouse" I think I might have to compromise on getting ALL the mechanical work done first, bite the bullet and get a wheel refurb ,proper tyres and some badges. Maybe I'll start with a good wash first though.

Unless you are tackling rust etc I'd be inclined to get the mechanical work done first Ian. Id far rather have a mechanically sound Cup that wasnt 100% perfect cosmetically rather than a car that looked mint but drove like a boat !

Im inclined to agree. I am trying to tackle a different mechanical job each spring (1st year recommisioning and belts, 2nd year suspension etc ) and do the cosmetic stuff in the winter when the car is laid up and it's too cold to be out in the garage too much!
I've got my head firmly in the sand when it comes to rust though, I'm worrying its going to be a huge rabbit hole to go down once I get started 😬😬

I need to find a good body shop to take a look at the rust, and I'm going to start looking around for someone to retrim the front seats this winter.

Good luck with the refurbishment Ian, you won't regret it.... I've been using mine as a daily since I retaxed it. Just can't leave it alone!

That's been my thinking, as for me it's the drive and character of the car that I love the most. However I do think it is a good looking car (from a distance

I've got some time off coming due to the world semi conductor shortage and will at least give it a wash and polish. I havent washed it since I bought it 3 month's ago

It's £150 for a retrim of your existing wheel, I think that includes postage. I paid a little bit more to have one retrimmed that he had in stock so I could keep my original wheel. Worth every penny in my opinion 👍

Does look very good that - the standard wheels in OEM trim look crap in comparison!
