i have a late 2001 ph1 172 am i right in thinking this is the aluminuim bonnet type? it does also have the shirt light. why was a ally bonnet introduced?

cheers

It was the very first silver ones made that had the aluminium bonnet from the cup race cars. Mostly the W and some X reg cars, same goes for the shift light. Rev upto 7200rpm and you should see the green light on the dash about 300rpm before the limit.

mines a y reg but has the shift light. what does this mean it is then? so ones faster than the other?

not always.

my old one was a one of the last, March 2001 and it had the aluminium bonnet.

I believe it was simply hit or miss if you got one... they probably did them in batches on the production line, like every third wednesday had the alu bonnet ;)

not faster no... just pub talk.

The alu bonnets are actually lighter than carbon ones, so will make a weight difference... i challenge anyone to notice the difference on the road though. shift lights also seem to be hit or miss on the Ph1s

Mine has a really weird shift light, its a 51

G
GAZ
Z

also has no red markings on the rev counter.... always wondered why!

Ahh, the shift light.
