Buy a 182 ;)

Seriously though . Like Tompoms says , they need to warm up properly . It's something to do with stopping you raggin' it as soon as you jump in it .

ive herd sumin about a sorta remap frm renualt thats meant 2 help

start her on the drive 5 mins before you leave and lock it with the spare key!

(so no-one can drive off in her)

197's are notorious for feeling a little sluggish lower down the rev band anyway,

best solution would be a re-map to push some torque lower down

ECU remap at reno, mine is going in over the next 7 days to have it done.

What mileage is your car on??

firstly don't even think about doing that, someone wont hesitate to break window if you leave it running, and when it goes your insurance wont cover you because the key is in the ignition!, please please don't do that lol!!

On a second note I know a fella that has a group N remap on a 172, it was made for the cup track cars and the idle is heightened to get the engine warmed fast, works a treat and it is a lot smoother first thing.

has 1800 ish miles on it thinking of a remap hw much it costing u?

if its only on 1800 miles, even though they are meant to be run in by then, they are still very tight until around 8k miles, no point in trying to thrash it when its so new, just need to be gentle with it for a while.

Pour hot water into the radiator every morning and it will fool the ECU and acitvate the VVT give you all the power you need....then when you have done that a few times use the search tool on the forum and figure out what went wrong....

My 172 drags back a bit when cold.

Feels like the handbrake is on in a strange way and this is only revving up to 3k ish, once warm its ok.

172 is actually worse in the cold than the williams?

Not a penny mate..tis under warranty..that said my 197 is on 15k and produced 198.6bhp on the rollers back in Feb this year with a touch over 6k on the clock...mine is a 'quick' one..

Take the handbrake off.

Also works as an air freshner, once you take it off the burning smell goes away...

gUYS WHO DO YOU SPEAK TO INORDER TO GET THE REMAP DONE BY RENAULT! I SPOKE TO SOME DOUGNUT IN THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE WHO DIDNT EVEN KNOW WHAT A REMAP WAS? I WANT TO KEEP MY WARRENTY FOR THE REMAINING YEAR

Was gonna say, the 1*2's never really loosened up until at least 4-5K mileage! The difference I remember in the car I test drove to the brand new one I picked up was staggering.

Also very sluggish first 5-10 mins of a cold start tbh

Just speak to someone in the service dep, or a technician. Think its known as the cold start patch, when i got mine back they didnt no what it was either but when it goes in the garage the download anything new to the ecu anyway as part of their checks.

tell him to type in actis solution number 7 103, and if he denies it ask to see the computer screen

There's a thread on the renaultsport forum about this, I printed it off and took it to the garage when I asked for mine to be done, on the (correct) assumption that they wouldn't know what I was talking about.

The remap improves things 100%, no more kangarooing down the road when the engine is cold. I don't know why Renault didn't tell all 197 owners about it...
