My airbag just went off and i didnt crash WTF?

with that sort of customer friendly attitude you will get nowhere in life my friend.

the days of someone holding thier hands up and saying "bring it down and ill sort it out" have gone.
i imagine they say sorry, it was my fault they went off because i was using the car incorrectly, or some bulls**t.

end of the day in my mind, theres nothing you should be able to do in a car that sets the bags off other than smashing it into a f**k off wall.

You'll never go far in life thinking that things won't get resolved because they are your fault when clearly they are not.

I dont work in the trade any more Harry? I am completly agreeing with you here, it is unacceptable which is one reason why I wouldn't be bent over by the dealers for it. Yes, I've seen customers turned away from getting things resolved, but the calm, matter of fact ones usually get what they want.

Air Bags have a shelf life of 15 years iirc so if yours are going pop now something is amiss and I'd expect it to be sorted, whats to say they dont all start going pop, or you have a new one fitted and that goes pop?

we all know it would be nice if dealers werent t***s but they are!!

just spoke to a renault specialist in lincoln. he says its a known fault, the drive shafts bang the diff which causes the bags and pretensioners to go,
he says new seat and ecu will be £1700.

ill see what renault come back with.

If it's a common problem then they obviously know about it and are doing nothing. I'd kick up a real fuss if they tried to make me pay for something which was a common problem.

speak to big iain, he got 2 new seats, new airbags, new seatbelt pre-tensioners, airbag motors etc etc out of renault despite the car being out of warranty worth around 3-4k

i rmember when my jack failed with my clio on it, they played hell, some salesman said it was operator error, so i asked to see his qualifications in structural engineering, but they still wouldnt fork out, my argument being that you cant decide where your getting a flat tyre so why should have to decide where you jack it up, in this case not on a perfectly smooth road.

I'm not either but I know that if after me being calm they came back and said I'd have to pay when it was a fault they knew about I would go nuts.

I know a girl who had the driver airbag go off in her saxo causing her to crash into a pub. She and her passenger had quite bad neck and back injuries requiring them to be hospitalised.

Think they got compo for it, not sure who from though

Mate Get onto reno again they wont do anything unless u chase them and they are more than aware of this issue. They had photos taken of mine several times. 2 seat covers because the new one didnt match the 5 yr old one on mine!

The next course of action was to have my passenger start legal talk about injury!!

unfortunately this isnt a rare problem, it is known for clios airbags to go off for no reason. We've had two at our place with the same thing. Renault SHOULD certainly pay for the cost. The ones we had were paid for.

The car should still drive ok, mine went off last year when my back wheel met with a curb, i didnt go through the insurance, so i sticthed it up and carried on driving! Fixed it now though, only cost me £300.

Probably werent crashed hard enough tbh, they dont trigger for every crash, as they can do more damage to the occupants than good sometimes.

My mate was driving his old mans 330d (rather quickly) and both passenger side 'bags went off without hitting anything! BMW didn't pay IIRC:S

there is a block that bolts to the sill, and it sensors twist in the shell, if the two bolt holes that it fastens into move ever so slightly, like a dip in the road or something, enough for the shell to bend slightly then this could cause the air bag to go off

just noticed the rear seatbelt is tight im guessing theres a pretensioner there which has also gone off. its broke the plastic surround on the seat for the seat release.

Thats who I dealt with too absolutly useless at getting back to u about anything, Although I found it hard to get angry at him as he is a very polite guy when u do get hold of him. Just make sure he is aware u know its not the only one out there. The rear will be bust aswell mate. And just remember the reno sport stitching will be different on a new seat cover.

Personally I would claim the insurance and buy the car back. It will be a right off wish I did now!

Bloody ell. I noticed this in your car the other day but didnt see the airbag hanging out, just thought some fat bloke had sat in the seat and ripped it .
