my backups have all gone to pot :(

i back up with a full backup every night
1 sql nt 4 server
1 2003 exchange box just the mdb files and the system drive
2 2003 file servers
1 2003 sql server
in total about 380gig to an lto3 tape so it should be rapid to say the least but for some reason the other week it started taking almost 16 hours to backup about 2 hours longer than it had and it seems to have done it for no reason what so ever :s

anyone explain it

Check your backup log, if it is generating errors that could be whats slowing it up, the backup i run at work takes all night (14 hours approx) for about 400gig so it should be quicker than that.

no real errors a few open files but thats it :s

just tried some little things so shall see how it goes tonight oh and add to that list 1 nas box

  Turbo'd MX-5 MK4
anti-virus software can sometimes play havoc with my backup exec backups; takes 14hrs to do 405GB here

i think thats what it was so i have changed it so it will speed up alot my test so far has shown it has doubled almost the backup speed from the nas drive

there was also a service running called saldm.exe so i have killed that on the nas box due to there not been an lcd satus display on it

I had this problem although only on a DDS4 tape, on 2 different sites. Was slow as s**t then just stopped, it turns out it needed the cleaning tape and refused to run after a while until I ran it through±!
