My BG 182 progress

Thought I'd start a thread of my progress and ownership of my BG FF 182. Was on the hunt for one for a month or so and just by chance a guy in the workshop next door was selling his wifes. She owned it for the last 3 years and pottered back and forward to her work in it, I bought it with 55k on the clock for very reasonable price. The first job to do is book it into renault for a cambelt and aux belt change as it is well overdue. And over te next 2 weeks im carrying out a wheel refurb as they are curbed.

As i write this i havent yet collected the car, Im waiting for a change back to the original reg.

So far i have purchased a set of plates from fancyplates (the trimmed front one)

a skoda fabia front splitter as the standard one is missing

a lime green samco inlet bend

a ph1 airbox

an ITG filter

I also got my hands on a 172 upper inlet (i was originally looking for a 172) to polish up and fit when i got a car. But i later found out that it wont fit a 182. So my plans are to finish machine polishing it and sell it on here. Thought id stick up a couple of phots, im sanding it right down first then polishing up. I tried polishing a little bit today to see how it came up.

Finally picked the car up on sunday afternoon! Very pleased with it!

Its been looked after but with a good coat of wax on it but there were swirls everywhere. So i got my hands on a machine polisher for the day and got to it!

Booked in to renault on thursday for the belts to be done, then i'll be happy!

cheersfolks, the plans are:

New exhaust mounts (all of them)
KTR/janspeed exhaust with silencer
Eibach sportlines

I have a ph1 airbox, ITG filter and samco bend ready to be fitted

and i have a set of mkIII 197 cup brembos on their way which i'll be making fit the standard discs (work in progress)

and possibly have a straight swap for a set of turini's (fingers crossed on that one)

Decided to polish up the RS logo on the manifold today with my new polishing kit, turned out quite good.

After being out a little run last night its started making a really loud whirring noise, even more so when turning. Got up this morning and changed the PAS fluid and stuck in a treatment too, that didnt make a difference. After a bit of searching on the forum I think it is the PAS pump at fault so ive ordered one from cliospares for the grand total of £58 delivered.

I can only hazard a guess as to why its went tits up. The last owners was a lady who done 9 miles a day and i cant imagine it ever seeing the high end of the revs and with me driving it differently its packed in! :/

And finally she is back on the road, started on her after work last night and didnt get finished till midnight. (no pics unfortunately) Got the PAS pump fitted and stuck a new aux belt on, fitted a full set of exhaust mounts, new xenon washer jet and a set of brembo OE discs and pads. So she is back on the road with a clean bill of health! :D Exhaust next!

Look forward to the updates.

My power steering pump is on it's way out also, is it a straight forward job to replace or a ball ache!!?

Not the most fun but nothing too difficult. I ended up making a tool for the aux belt tensioner that was the only issue! Stripped the front end right down for easiness, much better access!

I've started work on the carriers for the 197 brembos! Will add pics soon!

Also after a little inspection I found my car has RS stamped inlets which is a little bonus. A full service is on the cards next.

Been a while since i updated. Gave her a full service last week, new (and correct) plugs, oil, filter and cleaned the itg.

Purchased myself a set of cup turinis something which I had been after for a while. Fitted them to the car and now im not too sure if I like them. My 182 wheels were badly curbed so i set about refurbing them this weekend. There was hardly any damage to the alloys, more paint and chip damage. They are getting painted bright silver this week.

Mine fitted ok to the cat initially and i used an old clamp. Its started to blow at high rpm recently so ive ordered a new clamp. Its seems to be a common issue but IMO that type of exhaust join is a shite idea, if i have any more bother i'm getting a flange welded on to the cat and exhaust.

Again been a while since updated this. I got rid of the turini's and went back to the standard 182 wheels with a fresh coat of vauxhall star sliver which I'm really happy with. Also got myself a set of eibach sportlines and camber adjustment bolts which makes the car sit much nicer. The camber bolts are yet to be fitted, I'll get them on just before it goes in to get the tracking done. Lastly I've bought a RS tuner off the for sale section on here which should arrive at some point this week. I'm nearly at the point where I'll be happy with it. Future plans are possibly a set of Recaro pole positions and a cup racer Sabelt wheel but I'm not sure if I'm ready to take away the comfort and day to day practicality...

Mapped with the RS Tuner 98ron map today and i'm fairly pleased with it! Smoothed out torque delivery massively, no kick at 5000rpm but pulls much harder from 3200/3500rpm. Also really impressed with the RS Tuner software. The car feels more responsive to drive. I'd say it's one of the cheapest and best mods i've carried out.

Next on the list is a winter detail.

Very nice this mate, Will be getting an RS192 after xmas, just had problems with the cat> mid silencer clamp being loose, had to replace, would i just need to un do that release and drop the subframe to replace the exhaust when it comes to it?

Cheers.

To be honest mate, my original exhaust was in such a bad state i cut it in two at the rear beam. But yes you can drop the rear beam if you want to and disconnect at the cat.
The RS192 joint at the cat isn't great, plenty of paste and a good heavy duty clamp. Im on the verge of getting a v band joint fitted instead to make it much more secure.

After having trouble with the clamp snapping i know what you mean, ive got a v band clamp, sounds like your idea for a v band clamp with a good amount of paste would be better for me when i get it, cheers.

I used some paste then after not finding high temp silicone in halfords, i used a dab of 200c max gasket sealant... Im guessing its wrong because it stank when the exhaust was hot?

Sorry for off topic talk OP

Been a while since I updated.

I got myself a Renaultsport Sabelt steering wheel at christmas along with an OMP boss. Upon doing more reading on here I found out that the boss kit wouldnt fit with the 182's cruise control. So when it arrived I looked at it and figured I could make it fit. Which I did without much bother at all.

When I put it back together (without the airbag resistors) I had a lot more lights than I expected. ABS ESP SERV and Airbag. After more reading on here I diagnosed it as the steering angle sensor, so last night I decided to pull it apart and having a go at setting the sensor and hopefully manage to get the lights out.

SUCCESS! Managed to get the ESP and ABS lights out. Just airbag resistors to go in now! Hopefully by the weekend I'll have a dark dash.

Also treated the car to a full new set of dampers, new handbrake cable and a highlevel brake light. Gave her an oil and filter change too. All getting set up with the eibach camber bolts over the easter hols.

Next on the cards is a set of 2118's......
