My Clio 182 Thread

Car  182
Ok so after selling my 172 Cup back in 2009 because my wife didn't like the heavy clutch and not big enough for the kids I am now lucky enough to be in the position to be able to afford to have a weekend / summer toy.
I did fancy getting another cup but after looking around I came across a 1 owner 182 with low mileage (71k) and FSH including having just had the belts etc done (with proof) back in July. I went down to near Leeds to see see it, it needed a few bits and bobs doing (tyres, bushes, a couple of scabs and dents, melted steering wheel, etc) nothing major so a deal was done and I bought the car.
It was a 200 mile drive home for me and the car was faultless all the way home and reminded me just what a fun little car these are and this was a bit more comfortable compared to my previous cup.

So hear are some pics of the car when I picked it up

My intent is to get the car into as good a condition as possible and refurb or replace/ upgrade anything as I go or it needs it, so first of all I have decided to tackle the bubbling bonnet and bubbling passenger door as can be seen in the pics below

I am lucky in the sense that I have a few mates in various parts of the motor trade so off to my painter friend first, on working on the rear quarter for blending he found a historic repair that hadn't been done as well as he would have done as there were minor signs of bubbling starting on the wheel arch where it meets the quarter so he is sorting that out now too as can be seen below

He will be painting it tonight so I will update tomorrow once I pick it up, if anyone in Central Scotland needs any paintwork or repairs done Central Body repairs In Larbert is the place to go, he really is an amazing painter that takes a great pride in all his work.

Just picked it up from the painter its looking good

Moving house a week on monday so prob wont get much done for a couple of weeks but slowly getting parts together.

next up i'll be fitting my dogbone mount and fabia front splitter then it will be the suspension bushes at the front then sort the damaged jacking points

looks mint at the front now mate, told you you had a good buy with the 182 enjoy.

looks amazing. Wish I had a mate in paint trade!! Gonna paint your grill to spruce up the front next?

Yes mate, i plan on doing the lower & upper grill, fog light surrounds and the wing mirror mounts, then i will probably get the roof done as there is a couple of dints like something has been dropped on it, the plan is to just generally get it as mint as possible to hit a few shows next year

Ok not done anything but have bought a shed load of parts so as soon as I get my garage empty after moving house it will be getting sorned for the winter and will be doing the following

Fit cup spoiler
Get steering wheel re trimmed by @snappy
Full suspension refresh including new track rods, track rod ends, 172 cup shocks all round, Eibach springs, powerflex black series bushes, new top mounts
KTec Induction kit
Evol Engineering dog bone mount
Roof painted
repair / repaint damaged jacking points (have an idea for re inforcing these that doesnt invlove box section and will look a bit more factory)
New tyres all round
Full alignment and geo set up
Then should be ready for a few shows next year

Ok so today I fitted a new bosch battery as the old halfrauds one was knackered, fitted my evol engineering dog bone mount and my ktec induction kit, was going to fit my cup spoiler but discovered the brake light is knackered, will need to order a replacement.

Looking good mate, great job having a painter mate. Wish I did!! Well I do but he costs a fortune! :(
Really miss my 182.

Not been near the car cos of work and Christmas. Today got it up on the axle stands over my pit, took the evol dogbone off and put a power flexed dogbone on in place, fitted a battery cover, aluminium foot rest and made a start on getting the anti roll bar out to give it a clean up and a lick of paint before i fit the new powerflex black bushes I have for it

Managed to steal an hour on it tonight. Took the ARB out as all the powder coating has cracked and it could do with running a wire wheel over it. Got it out but one of the outer bush clamp bolts snapped. Are they just bog standard M8x30 bolts with a nyloc nut?

Here's a pic of the crusty ARB. Will give it a clean and paint this week.

Productive couple of hours spent there, ARB back in and inner bushes chenged to powerflex black series. Will crack on with removing the lower arms tomorrow to change the bushes and ball joints on them
