My first attempt at machine polishing

  An orange one
I've owned this dual action polisher for a while now. But as of 3 days ago the v6 is now SORN so I thought I'd crack it out and have a go, this weeks 5th gear episode also spurred me to try it out

Ive always been a hand detailer so I'm a bit unsure of what to use but after 1 pass with just AG SRP I was very impressed with the results, I didnt want to use anything too drastic in case I did something wrong and wrecked the paint lol

So I got a few pics after one quick pass, I'm not sure they do it justice to be honest...looks and feels stunning in real life :)

Some tips from the pro's would be most welcome though!

A V6 and a M3....lucky man.

Tips would to start at a slow speed, then increase the speed but ALWAYS keep the DA moving. A little lubricant on top of the cutting compound doesn't harm it either. I tend to spray a light mist of Demon Shine to ease the process.

What kind of cutting compound would you go with? The car doesn't have many swirls at all, but I worry that the AG SRP has masked them rather than cut them out???

When I got the polisher it came with sonus SF1, 2 and 3 polishes

The pad I'm using is a yellow 3M one my brother in law got me from his work...dunno how coarse it is exactly??

Oh...m3 is my dads lol, I do have the odd blast in it every now and again...it's a properly rapid machine!

I think this may be the lights and iPhone camera?? Can't see any hazing on the car... Is buffer trails caused by too much polish?

Usually caused by the polish not being broken down properly before it's removed.

Must admit I could only see what looks like a buffer trail/hologramming on the 8th photo down over the rear arch. Could just be the lighting as has been said though.

Just had a good look and cant see any steve, think its the reflection of stuff in the garage

I can see some dirt under the skirts though :p

nope that's the reflection of the floor lol the underneath is just as clean as the top :)

Some light buffer trails in the 2nd shot but I bet it looks like liquid paint in person. I've never been a Mars Red fan on the V6, not a bad colour, just always prefered Black and Illiad.

Cutting compound. Yeah, cracking recommendation.
