My First Car - 1.2 Clio

I know as this is my first car I shouldn't be spending a lot of money on it, but I'm eager to spend as much as I can. I wont be starting anything for a few weeks, as I'm now unemployed and looking for a job, but that should be sorted out very soon! :'(

As of now (04/03/2011)

As you can see it is a pretty standard 1.2 Dynamique at the moment.

Plans:

• New Front Grille
• Rear Windows Limo Tint
• Clio 16" Anthracite Alloys? (Opinions/Suggestions please)
• Lowering (How low?)
• New Shorter Ariel
• K-Tec Stealth Exhaust? (Read very good reviews on these)
• Colour coding exterior plastic trim OR getting the trim vinyl wrapped in carbon vinyl (Opinions/Suggestions again please)

These are the things I was thinking of doing to it, but I'd like some feedback from some more experienced Clio owners, as I'm only 17 and passed my test a month ago therefore I don't want to make it look OTT or 'Chavvy'.

IMO i would avoid the limo tints - they look chavvy.
Grille, YES! Sport grille for sure.
Wheels, the 182 cup wheels will be a nice addition!
Lowering, you will want coilovers if you're spending money on it!
Shorter ariel, good move!
Exhaust, good choice IMO.
Colour coding, definitely get them colour coded. Carbon would look gay.

Tints are very 90s... Just leave as is... Spend that money saved on Coileys

Small update; Got the rear windows tinted in Limo tint. I wasn't sure whether or not to do it, but my Dad won a few grands so he treated me to it. It actually improves the look a lot in my opinion. I've also added a cheap air filter which doesn't sound amazing, so when I have the available funds I'll upgrade to a K&N. Also the clear indicator bulbs are now in!

I'm in desperate need of a front right tyre as well, but I'm planning on buying 4 very decent tyres at the same time that I either; Get my current alloys treated + changed to black OR buy a brand new set of 15" black alloys. What's everybody's opinion?

And as soon as I can, I'll be ordering a sports grille! Every Clio I see with one on makes me jealous!

Small update: Got a few pieces of interior trim carbon wrapped, it looks sweet. I'm now considering some Lamin-x Optic Blue for my fog lights, and a bonnet bra. Also decided on just getting my stock Dynamique alloys refurbed+powder coated black. I have other small things planned like a tow strap (instead of the bullring). I also swapped air filters with a friend for one which is slightly louder.

ktec stealth sounds good but dont get a bonnet bra of fog light lens crap... just a nice set of 172 or cup alloys and lower it with a sport grill subtle and sweet mate,

What bulbs are they mate ? im assuming there not road legal ? all the HID look bulbs are cack but they ones you have dont look TOO blue imo.

Limo tints are an acquired taste from what I've seen on here but I respect your opinion. The sidelights aren't actually as blue as they look, they just show very blue in certain pictures. I agree with you on the lowering situation, but I don't think I'll be able to declare and afford the insurance with it, so I'll have to wait!

The sidelights (the only lights turned on in the pictures) were fitted by the previous owner so I have no clue what they are. They aren't as blue as they appear, they're kind of an "Icy Blue"/white colour. The main lights are xenon white but they aren't turned on in any of the pictures. As far as I am aware all my bulbs are legal though

I was considering doing a replica at first but due to ridiculous insurance prices I can't really afford to, hence getting the current alloys treated and doing mods that don't increase the insurance (too much) :/

Small update. I NOW HAVE A JOB. I start a week today, and get payed fortnightly! Now the real fun can begin! First things I'm going to do are colour code the sidestrips, buy an RS Grille, Get 4 new tyres and get my alloys refurbed/coated black. Other stuff will be getting done, but these 4 things will be done first!

It is rather annoying, but when I'm paying more than the value of the car in insurance, I don't see the point in voiding the insurance for a mod worth less than 10% of the insurance price :/

Do desperately need it lowering though! :/

Little update; RS Grille on order, should be here early next week. Front+Rear diamonds and rear Clio badge are now black. Also ordered an LED registration plate bulb to match my sidelights (small yet effective mod). My birthday is at the end of August, hopefully will be getting some new tyres and my alloys refurbed+coated black around then. Also debating whether or not to lower it by 40mm on springs and not tell my insurers? People are saying they (the insurers) wouldn't tell I've lowered it, but I'm sceptical about it! And, with my next pay day I will be colour coding my side strips! Is it easy/hard to colour code the front+rear bumpers too?

RS Grilles are definitely the best mod for non sports, really does tidy up that old front end! I'm highly impressed with it haha

Your friend took these for photography coursework?! He must have failed! The last picture has no focus point at all!

Like your car though, I would like to upgrade my car to a nice black clio like yours when it finnaly gives up the ghost... (or a metallic yellow...)

Have you insured the window tints or the air filter i bet not but it is classed as a modification and your insurance should know

Window tints yes, and it is a free modification on my policy (which is understandable as you can simply peel it off), and I haven't declared my air filter but you can change it to the standard air box in less than 2 minutes? I know people will call me stupid and stuff but I know you have plenty of time to change it back to a standard airbox
