My New Clio

  2004 Clio 182
Hello all, finally got my first car and guess what... ITS A CLIO!

Saw this, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4648850973&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1
a few days ago on ebay, went to see it last night with my Dad, at the time of seeing it there was no bids on ebay and without me prompting the seller offered it to me outside of ebay for £3700. I said i was very keen and rang back this morning to says yes i would take it. I got my insurance sorted with Tesco's and collected it today at 5pm and drove the whole 40mins home with a BIG smile on my face :D. Its a really smooth drive and with it being 1.6 has got a nice bit of power to.

Its a bit diirty and needs a good clean up.

I've already got lots of ideas about what i want to add to it starting with a change of those wheels :S.

will post some more pictures later.
:D:D:D:D:D

took a few pictures before it got to dark;

Well there she is... god dam she looks good... well apart from that ugle orange indicator, will have to go.

Never seen thos wheels before, not to keen on them tho, the hunt for a replacement begins.

Side angle with the flash on just to show how dirty it is, should look a lot better once i have give it a propper clean.

Nice climate control and console not looking worn at all. Can just see the feet on a nodding dog the the seller left in there... it wont live long. Mats need to the thrown away and new ones put in. new MOMO gear stick knob needed as it looks so cheap with no silver insert. May well put a new head unit in IF i can find a a slylish one, the less flashing lights the better.

very annoying melted top section on the steering wheel, i may try and find somewhere local (Nottingham, if anyone knows of one?) that will retrim it for me. but nice clean dash and i like the old style 4 dials.

Dirty engine bay tho i have no idea how or where to start in cleaning it up?

It was starting to rain so i ran in.

EDIT: Seeing as i know nothing at all about cars from cleaning to fixing i have decided that i will keep this thread running and update it each time i do something new to the car. Should make for an interesing read... :eek:

well i cant say that i am going to have the time (or be bothered) to wash, clay, polish, wax, kiss all over twice a week but she at least deserves one proper clean, swirls removed and wax from her new owner. The only problem is that last time i cleaned a car was when i was 12 and my Dad paid me 50p to wash his van with a bucket of water and washing up liquid. People seem to say this "Megiuars" stuff is good, tho looks a little expensive. I will take a trip down to Halfords tomorrow morning and see what i can find. Bottle of wash, tub or wax and a new sponge should sort me out right?

Excellent, well done, lovely car! I can well imagine the smile on your face when you drove her home, I was grinning like a cheshire cat when I got mine. They sure do have some serious 'umph' for a 1.6 too! I have air con, but no climate control, that's a 'cool' bounus. (pardon the very bad pun) lol.

I am just starting the 'modding' process myself, so I am going to be very interested to see what you do to yours. :D

Drove over to Halfords this morning with this printed off;

Yes get in, no one had! lol

Shopping list;

2 Buckets
Lambswool wash mitt
meguiars gold class shampoo
meguiars quick clay
Plenty of microfibre towels
Meguiars scratch x
Auto Glym Super Resin Polish
Auto Glym Extra Gloss Protection
Carnuba Wax
Auto Glym plastic and bumper care
Meguiars endurance tyre gel
Auto Glym Engine and Machine Cleaner

I didnt intend to buy the whole lot as it doesnt bother me that much... yet.

When i got there i saw the "Meguiar's Ultimate Car Care Kit" which seemed to be a good starting point for a novice like me. there was 2 of them left and the lable on the shelf said £14.99. i quickly added up the individual costs of the items and it came to about £48. seemed like a carzerly good deal but when i got to the till it scanned through at £34.99 :mad:. I asked for the manager and calmly explained that she would be selling it to me for £14.99 as that was what they had it priced up as, and so she did. 2 Bargins in 2 days YAHOO!

i returned home with;

Nice strong bag to keep all my Meguiers stuff in... might well retutrn the haynes book

Once i had got home i realised i didnt have any micro towels or stuf for cleaning the engine so so had to drive back, oh dam! :D

bought;
Pack for 3 Meguiars microfiber Gold Glass Towels
Auto Glym Engine cleaner

AFTER

Not to bad for my first try.

Next job is to get some new Mats sorted, clear indicator and gear stick knob.

  Monaco Blue Mk2
Top bombing mate. Not bad for a cheap first go! Looks 10x better. Get some tyre gel though, sets it off a treat. Engine bay is a huge improvement. I know you used the AG engine cleaner, but what did you actually do? Just spray it on, leave and rinse off or what..?

Next job, get the inside spick and span!

By the way...Haynes manual is a good buy.

  MK2 FRS
good choice and nice to have the climate. cheap price. will clean up nicely, the steering wheel is the same on all dynamiques so shouldnt be two pricey to get a 2nd hand job.

  M2 Competition
The steering wheel on my cup is doing the same mate, peels off from the top right.

As for gear stick, theyre a pain in the ass to change, so might be better sticking to your original!

Renault sell the side repeaters in white, not 2 dear as their prices are going down a fair bit recently, and ive tried aftermarket ones that havnt fitted before, so best sticking with proper renault.

Btw, feck me thats clean!

  ILLIAD VEE!!
Hey nice car Boyce...!!! ;) You're a lucky fella, my first car cost £325 quid and was a MK1 Escort...!!! (no-where near as nice as yours..!!!)

Enjoy it matey...!!! :D

By the way...Haynes manual is a good buy.

Sprayed it on very generously on every surface in sight, put the bottle right down inside the engine bay so i could get to the hard to reach areas, got a new 2" head paint brush and worked it round a little bit, left it for 2 mins while a set the hose pipe up, turned the hose on full and got my finger over the end and gace it a good spraying down, got a new microfiber towel and gave it a good dry and rub down. A total for 5-10 mins work, and i think it would have needed even less rubbing with the towel had i left it n the 10 mins but it said not to let it dry on and surface and my engine was still a bit from from coming back from halfords 30 mins before.

Hope that's helped you mate and thanks again for the info and shopping list

Thanks a lot Jainy, and to everyone thats said nice car. I would have loved a MK1 Escort, my dream car and i will get on one day. It would have just been to much time and work for my first car plus they have shot up in price in the last few years since they have become collectors items

just sent off a cheque for a set of Justmatz. Front and rear black mats, light gray stitching around the edge, light gray "Cliosport" logo on the front 2, heal pad on the drivers side. I asked for the back two to be seperate rather than all in one.

Also just ordered;
15514235111.jpg

MOMO Race Evo Aluminium "S"
http://www.momo.it/tun_shiftknobs.html

and

MOM_MATCH.jpg

MOMO Match Anthracite
http://www.momo.it/tun_pedals.html

They both sound like hard work to fit from what i have read on here but should look good and keep in with the simplistic black and silver Dynamique interior.

I like the sound of the mats you have sent for, quite like those pedals too. I reckon they're gonna look smart. Looking forward to the pics. :)

  Mustang, S13, AX GT
bargain (and fookin shiny when your done) :D did u not find it a bit heart breaking after driving it around after cleaning it, you can see it get dirtier almost instantly :D
