My New (old) Ford Orion.

1989 Ford orion 1.6i Ghia.

Bought and collected it today from Wakefield which was an 11 hour round trip... And it's still in Yorkshire! I had to collect Mike Jenics 172 Cup that I bought off him 2/3 weeks ago and took a mate to drive the orion back. But we got there and the car has been standing for years so didn't want to risk it breaking down as the Cup was another non runner and I can only fit one car on the back! lol.

Got to be honest, it's a heap. It's nowhere near as good as described and tbh, the seller barefaced lied to me in texts/emails/phonecalls. He said it had no rust at all and it's riddled with it. Needs new rear arches, new drivers door (I've got one) and needs some of the sill repairs re-doing because the welding is terrible... But I'd just driven 200 miles and I couldn't be bothered arguing with one of the dumbest human beings i've ever spoken to in my life so I just paid my money and left.

So Why did I buy it??

Its done 50,000 miles from new. I doubted that, but it's been sorn'd since 2010 and the last two owners before that were father and son, they had it for 12 years between them. Vosa check ties up, HPI is clean...

So basically I need to get it back home (probably use shiply, I can't be fcuked to drive all the way up there again!) and then decide what to do.

Option 1) Cut out the rear arches, fit new ones, repaint both sides of the car, wheel refurb, full service and cambelt kit, get the car ready for next summer and use it. Hopefully get to some Ford shows??

Option 2) Just sell it straight away and try and get my money back and find a better base car.

Option 3) Bodge it full of filler, hope the cambelt doesn't snap and punt it on for minimum profit.

Anyway, pic of it... (I'll update as and when I work on it)

Looks good, or at least it will when you've sorted it out. I see you in the photo 'assuming the position', as per usual, lol ;)

Option 1. Things that need effort normally mean they are worth doing.

I don't know if I've got the enthusiasm to go that deep into it mate.

Ah..... A picture paints a thousand lies. A P38 Special?

The passenger side rear wing is hilarious. Looks like they rubbed the filler down with a Rasp ffs!

Some nut will surely pay £££ once its up together?

Good ones sell for around £2k.

They need to be either red grey black or white though. The blue, silver, gold etc are harder to sell.

In that case, punt it on ASAP mate. If you don't have the enthusiasm now, you won't have it in 4 months when it needs even more work on it or things aren't going to plan.

Use the money to buy a K11 for Llandow :)

By the by, flamer got caged this week. Photos up later in the week.

Hmmm i'm not sure whether to be happy for you or not.

I know you really want one! Do you have the time to fix it up?

No time and my mates losing his unit very soon so nowhere to do it either. If I did anything with it, i'd get my bodyshop to do it.

I need to get it back home and take a second look at it. I think I might be being over critical for a nearly 24 year old car.

Oooh, maybe you'll know, where can I buy rear arch panels for one of these??

If after a close inspection it's in a bad state just sell it on, hopefully you'll get your money back,
then put that money into the next one.

Personally I don't know what you see in them, i've always seen them as a sh*t version of an Escort,
but then again i've had quite attractive girlfriends in the past and Christ knows what they saw in me as I look like sh*te,
so I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as long as you like them then that's all that counts mate. :approve:

I hope it's in better nick than you think and makes you happy.

Me and the Mrs went out earlier,

I was like "shall we take the Orion?"

Ha!

I've put £10 of petrol in it today, its mot'd and you can drive it on my insurance! But its not taxed so that's up to you. You're welcome to take it out though mate.

Right, just done a deal on a much nicer one.

So now I have to do another 400 miles to collect the one in Yorkshire & bring it back to Bristol, then get myself to Clacton on Sea (Where??) and collect this other, much more genuine rust free one, then sell the heap and hope I don't lose too much money.

Fcuk sake.

  Petrol Blue 182.
I love it Daniel. I think you should keep it, RS Turbo conversion. Proper sleeper.

First car I remember my parents having was a white Orion.

Just seen your last post ffs. Do what I said to the one in Clacton (thats Essex btw)

What are you honestly going to do with an Orion once you've restored it?

Seeing as your misses has a decent car and you've only got the flat bed,
are you going to use it as a daily?
