my ph1 172 and 350z

  Trophy #473
Taken from Jim White at Detailing World.

Today’s task was to tidy up the 350Z, and turnaround the Clio 172. I knew I had my work cut out, and probably being a bit optimistic but hell, who doesn’t like a challenge.
Arriving an hour early I got on the case straight away.. The forecast said rain, yet through till lunch it was just windy and cold!! (very overcast however..)

At this point the Cotton Wool buds came out again to tidy up some difficult areas.. Now I did say it was windy, I had to make several runs out to the road to prevent products/crates and clothes blowing away, but I wasn’t expecting this!!

This car gets driven, hard. Usually found ‘tripoding’ on the back roads of Lincolnshire.

So, you can imagine the build up on the front half, wheels, lowers etc..
Same wash process as the Nissan. Starting with the wheels..
- Tyres doused in APC & Scrubbed
- Wheel nut housing worked with cotton wool/SV Wheel Brush and WB, although they were quite badly worn already
- Megs WB & Wheel brush to clean the face of the alloy.
- EZ Detail for the inner rim
- Pitted areas in crevices 70% removed with Tardis/WB and a bit of elbow grease (last resort, the wheels were due a refurb).
Ideally they needed to come off. They were pretty destroyed. BUT, I did what I could in the time given.

Check out the tar on the inner rims:

There was no way I could remove this without the wheels coming off.
Wash stage.
Again, same again as the Z.
- rinsed
- snowfoamed
- detail areas etc..

Now at this point, I was stumped. The rain was pouring, the clouds weren’t getting any lighter and I had a whole day ahead of me to try and fix this Clio. Options? Pack up and drive 5 minute down the road to the Clio owners’ house. Right..
Sure enough. I got packed up. We drove through town. And Set up once again at our new location..
- re-rinse
- TBM with UltiMit and Maxi Suds
- Clay with Sonus Green and LastTouch as Lube
- Tardis on lower sections
- Rinse and dry

Vehicle brought inside, LimePrime worked on Megs polishing pad via PC.

Really worn and pitted headlight. I tried polishing it up but had no luck. Was going to wet-flat the area but had no time.. (it’s not 6/7pm already..)
d9f37227.jpg

All panels polished/cleaned with LimePrime, Werkstat Acrylic Jett Trigger followed.
ba40e8a4.jpg

Alloys sealed with CG Wheel Guard. Tyres w/Megs Endurance Gel. Interior given a quick seeing too. Trim dressed w/CG New Look Trim Gel. And I think, that’s about it. I packed up about 8:30pm, took various photos, cleaned myself up and was home for 10:05pm. Urgh.
It was a tough day and really, it didn’t feel as though I have achieved that much!?
Some final photos..
