My window broke.

Car  E92 330
When driving yesterday i pressed down on the the window button and there was a thud and the window dropped. I now have to manually push the window up and down.

If i press the window button i can hear a scratching and wurring, so the motos obviously still working.

Is this a common fault? or a problem anyone has had to fix them selves before?

It'll most likely be the actuator/regulator? (I think it's called that)

Have had both go on my golf, warning though they're not cheap, mine were about £125 each fitted.

One of mine went when I was taking the cat home for christmas a couple of years ago, had to drive home with gloves, scarf and hat/coat on :-S

ok thanks for that mate, is worth having a look at it my self? (with my limited knowledge)

Its getting a little worse now, on the way to work this morning it would drop and inch as i went over every bump in the road.

Window Regulator is away on it (this is a very common problem with Renaults)

It might sound like its working but dont attempt to use the window (it will scratch the glass inside the door)

Renault will charge you £170 for one

Or, order one from EuroCar parts and itll cost you £83 (www.eurocarparts.com)

Its pretty easy to replace actually, the bigest pain in the arse is pulling the plastic door trim away from the door (the black glue is a complete b*****d to come away) You will also need a torque screwdriver for the bolts mate

vw do a repair kit at £44 per side

ive just taken the torx screws out but cant get the ba***d plastic panel off. Are there any other screw apart from the 4/5 along the bottom?

speaker screws and the handle release and the window button sections then yes just pull away, run a lond scred driver around the edge too. Will prob break some plastic lips, i did replacement on mine xmas eve, easy job, and got regulator for £13 from ebay :)

sweet, thanks for that mate. How long did it take you? Is there anyway it can be repaired without replacing? Is there any wiring involved or is it just a case of plugging it in?

Speaker screws
handle release
window button

Did you have to use any glue or a ressin to get the panel to stick?

p.s. thanks for the help

we supply them for 30 for the passenger side and 47.50 for the drivers side, genuine, used with a 3 month warranty. Fitting also available.

Sounds good there on the price joshydee, i was just lucky on ebay. No wiring just the oval or round multi plug on the window regulator. Would be nice if you could just replace the white platic bits that break, however mine and most end up chewing the cable up too on the spool from what I have read. Didnt need any glue on the panel when putting it back, the stuff already on it stuck back together :)

See to be honest mate, the stuff is so sticky that you wont have to add anymore, it will just push back into place. There are about 4-5 screws around the edge of the door these are all torque screws aswell)

There are two bolts which hold the metal runner bar (the one the window goes up and down) these have to be bolted into place, although i would recommend bolting the window motor in first.

Before you do anything have a look at the way the original is bolted in to give you an idea of what goes where (although the new part may look a bit different but it will still fit)

Right ok, im workin my last day today then im off for a week so im goin to try and get this sorted during this time. Hopefully it will be a straight forward job.

Thanks for all the help

Rob
