MythDora - KDF?

  20VT Clio & 9-5 HOT
ok thought id give a linux install another go (1 out of 5 or 6 attempts over 4 years has to work and this version sounds promising!)

Attempted to install Mythdora after failing miserably with normal linux and mythtv on its own a while ago.

all seems to be going well then about 80% of the install it errors saying it cannot continue for the following reason:

then gives no reason and 1 option - reboot

KFD, can you recommend this version of mythtv? or iv read about one called [SIZE=-1]Knoppmyth?

I just want a simple install, config and it be up and running, cant be fooked with any command line installs and setup as I dont know enough about Linux and it just makes my brain hurt and wastes hours of my life lol!

Failing any success its gonna have to be WMCE

Cheers for any help! :D

Havent used Mythdora. I use ubuntu and install mythtv from there.

All I can say is the first time I setup MythTV... about 5 years ago.. It took me 3 days to setup properly.

Recently I just setup a new MythTV system and it took me 10 minutes, and its not cause im getting better ;) Ultimatly if you want something that relativly polished and wont take any of your time up your better off with WMCE. If you want THE best PVR solution on the market today with the flexability to do whatever you want with it.. MythTV is worth the time.

I couldn't live without it now.. it just does it all for me. Just recently I have it set up to export newly recorded programs to the Iphone, when the iphone hits a wifi connection all my home programs are available in the correct format for streaming.

I would recommend ubuntu.. once installed just open a terminal and type sudo apt-get install mythtv

Job done.

Just as a side note though...My most recent installation I had to re-compile the kernel as the Hauppauge Nova-T 500 driver is new and not built into the kernel yet.

sudo apt-get install mythtv

Typed that. Installed fine, but I cant seem to get it to conect to the databased (I know I need to do some reading on it), but any quick fixes?

whats the error message ?

your mysql server needs to be started

sudo /etc/init.d mysqld restart

then just run mythtv-setup to setup the backend. if your just using the one machine set your mysql database IP to 127.0.0.1
