:( :( Need help please guys,

Hi all,

My g/f bought a Clio 1.6 16v (51) a while ago, car was sweet for about 2 weeks.

Now today the car idles just above 100rpm if that, is VERY lumpy and has the engine warning light flashing on the right hand side of the dash.

It sounds as though its firing on 3 to me or the timing is off. As part oft the deal from the dealership they replaced the cam belt and the car has got 50k on the clock now.

Could any one give me some possible faults? the cars fine if its rev a little (maybe a little lumpy at times) and does still drive. Will engine light flashing mean she shouldnt drive the car??

Kind Regards, this is not the kinda present she was after for XMas!!!

Have a good one,

Si

One of/ some of the coils have gone down.

You can either buy some from the renault dealer after xmas and fit them yourself, or if your in the AA, you can call them and they actually keep them on the vans as they are THAT common to go wrong on Renaults!! lol

as said, sounds like coil packs. my clio also did this when the lambda sensor broke so if coils dont do the job it could be that.

Sounds Like one of the coils. Sometimes easy to tell if your noticing the problem at idle. Unplug them one at a time, the one that has no effect on the running is the one that is down, unplugging a good one will result in it running on 2 cylinders.

As Josh said, unplug the wire going to each coil one at a time. The one that makes no difference to the engine note is the one that's knackered.
The engine light you're on about is an emmission control light, the llambda is picking up all the unburnt fuel being chucked out, it will go out when you put a new coil on! I would'nt drive it like it is as you'll damage the CAT.....

Can anyone give me a part num for coils?

The coil pack on the 172 is a all in one units £50 ish fopr a new one the dalers keep them in stock

The 1.2 use both seperate and one off units (depends on age etc)

The 1.4 and 1.6 use the same type of single coil packs

The single coils are £35 ish each depend on discount you get and where you g.
