Need Info On Ph-1 172's

Looking at buying one in the near ish future (when i have another 1 years NCB)

max to spend would be £3500 - £4000. Ones ive seen seem to be around a 2000 plate and have 55k miles on them

For this age/mileage what should i look out for, info about services and so on.

Just need advice to see if its a worthy upgrade from the RSi?

Thanks

You can get some with arounf 40k on them if your search but the majority have between 50k - 70k on them now, if they have been looked after you shouldnt have any problems with them.

just make sure they have had cam belt changed at correct intervals and regular services.

you will see some wear and tear on them as they are nearly 6 yrs old, especially on grab handles and steering wheel.

and is definatley a worthy upgrade :)

Its a great car and sicne there no warently at this age I'd get one over a phase 2 as the electrics are simpler and the throttle is better reponsivness wise.

You can pick them up realy cheap personally I'd get one for about £3k maybe £3.5k with higher milage as after lal there 6 years old and 12k a years adverage so they should be on about 72k one which has done 40k IMo is only used for short runs which isn't good for the engine or box better to have a car which has bigger milage on the motorway etc as its less worn.

Renault guidlines on servicing are here

Cheers edde.

Suprised at the late cam belt change, my RSi had its done at 45k and its now on 65k. Ideally if im upgrading id want lower mils than what ive currently got.

High milage shou never put you off the things wich can wear ie damper aren't much to replace and they can wear on cars with 40k just as easy. Plus there cheaper.
If you buy say a 100k £2.5k 172 and need new dampers and a new engine and box it will only cost in parts about £1k excluding fitment and a car with 40k will cost say £4.5k and if it needs a new box/clutch that takes the value if one to nearer £5k.

Yep boxes arn't award winning.
You cna pick up second hand boxes for £300 or so then say £300 to fit and £100 for a new clutch.
Matt Blacks got a phase 1 gearbox brand new for sale for £495 I think.

Dave, Have a good look round mine and go for a spin, then when you go to look at one you will have a better idea of what to look for.
Mine has no problems whatsoever and has been well looked after. Its a 2000 car with only 45k on the clock
