Keep us posted Ben. Very interesting stuff this

Just a shame now that the big power conversions for the F4r are starting to overtake the ability of the box

Read snipits about a 270 odd bhp turbo'd F4R lump in a R5 GT Turbo and their using the R5 turbo box (probably down to clearence problems in the 5 shell)

Wonder if this could be a area to look at for the Clio? Is the R5 box stronger than the 172 / 182 one?

Would save a bit of weight :dead:  ;)

nah, the 5 box is near as dammit the same, but without the better diff retainer of the 182 box, god knows why you'd choose a 5 box :s

Hopefully with sympathetic driving and the linear output of a supercharger, the gearbox should last. Turbos kill as their torque curve comes on like a hammer blow.

So long as people dont run about doing standing drag starts, shift like monkeys, jump on and off the throttle at 6000rpm.

The guys well know on the R5 forums and iv heard his name mentioned on here a few times

Scoff or something?

That would be me :) At the last calc the engine made something like 350hp, the gearbox started to wine worse after each santa pod visit. I finally managed an 11.27 @ 127mph, and infact the gearbox still worked OK allbeit a bit noisey, but out mapping with 2 bar boost some weeks later finally killed it off.

I agree with some of the above, the 172's JC5 is the better choice compared to the GTT's unit. The GTT's diff is held in with a spring clip than can be problematic. the 172's ratio's also suited me better.

I am in the process of fitting a much stronger VW gearbox, I should be back on the strip next year with that :)
