Need some inspiration - 172

I was seriously considering selling my 172 at the end of March when my bonus comes and getting an Evo/Imprezza/Escort RS Turbo. However, the more I think about it, the more its not really viable.

The clio gives me decent MPG, can take a thrashing, handles well, and is usable as a daily. I can park it anywhere, and it doesnt attract unwanted attention.

But....... its just not floating my boat at the mo

ASs it stands, its standard, bar a couple of little mods

ITG Panel Filter
Decat
Stainless stealth

Now, herein lies my predicament. I dont wanna strip it, slam it, or have it loud as f**k, so out goes the idea of coils or a yozza. I want nice, subtle, and useable.

Therefore, I was thinking of carbon splitter, 182 rims (I dont want turinis or 2118s), Trendlines. Maybe some uprated shocks, proline springs and a rear ARB to make it handle just that little better?

Anyone think of anything else i could do? Noithing stupid like throttlebodies or turbo

see im thinking the same thing, although mine is fairly loud (yozza)

but yeah i want something bit more refined but still quick so as much as it pains me i've stuck mine on pistonheads and im after a 225/230, but ideally want a golf gti edition 30 but funds dont allow

I hear good reviews about Koni adjustble dampers which would only lower the car if you wanted to (springs) but improve the handling!

R888's ;)

you could spend half the money you would buying an evo, or impretza and have the clio turbo'd :D
well that depends on which model evo or impretza you were looking at.

If it was me thats how i'd spend the money on the clio instead.
Afterall from what you already said its a mod no one will know its there, and will retain the clios 'stealth appeal' lol
A turbo would really make you love the car again

  Clio 172 cup
For the cost of a turbo conversion for the Clio you can get a very decent impreza which will be far quicker and prices for imprezas and evos have dropped dramatically recently due to the high price of fuel

Go for a drive, at night like now, and just enjoy it.

Been out tonight and on my way home the roads were dead and had the most fun i've had in the clio for months. Proper enjoyed myself, and came home buzzing (brrrap). If I'm ever falling out of love with it I do this and it usually works :)

As far as mods go, get a rarb, set it stiff, damp roads, lots of lift off oversteer fun  Or set it around medium and enjoy the new, planted clio.

19's. Neons. Spoiler. 4x 4" exhausts.

From your list of new cars you're clearly a chav so those will suit you fine! Lol.

The trouble with Impreza's and Evo's is that insurance is horrific.... due to them being silly fast and silly cheap now, any little rat bag can afford to buy one and stick it backwards, on fire, into a lamp post.

I honestly believe that for bang for your buck fun driving, there's not much that comes close to the clio.

None of the above mate. I dont want something thats gonna break every week. And, YBH, I cant be arsed f**king about under the bonnet, lol

Like I said, am thinking maybe 182 rims, trendlines (or similar) and a handling package

I'm not sure that superchargers etc are as unreliable as everyone imagines, not anymore at least. But fair enough, handling and strippage then!

no stripping, lol. I dont want a rattley, noisey piece of s**t.

Nice seats, and mybe add a little dynamat. Not that its gonna make a hell of a difference to how fast it is, will just make it a more livable place to be

If you don't want coilies then adjustable shocks, Eibach springs (Sportlines for show, Prolines for go), rear ARB. Forget the Trendlines, looks great but pointless. And for the love of god don't put 182 alloys on, 15" for better handling and cheaper tyre prices. Or just buy a Ph1 ;).

You won't do any of this though or anything else, I'm not going to even kid myself lol.

Sy, I properly hate 15's on 1*2's. I think they look really shite. I think the 182 rims look bigger than the 172s for some reason. Also wont be going black, so a set of standard 182, or maybe some OZ Ultraleggras? But I do like 16s. I dont mind the price of tyres

my advice is buy a cheap set of wheels with some R888 or similar and do the occasional track day, other than that just enjoy it as is, as they are awesome little cars, i have recently bought my Clio 172 having come from a BMW e39 540i and Sierra Cosworth before that and the Clio is the best compromise of fun/practicality i have come across yet
