Need to create a public Wi-Fi spot

  Rav4
Hi,

Need to create a public WIFI in a bar.

Currently they have a 2wire piece of crap cutting out the wifi every so often.

Thinking of getting another router, linking it to the 2wire, enable DMZ on the wired router and connect the DMZ port of the wired router to the WAN port of the wireless router with a standard network cable, then set the outers to be on different subnets.

Any thoughts / recommendations / hardware suggestions?

Thanks,

G.

That's how we run our wireless for the courtyard(except its a proper Juniper hardware firewall with an access point). Works fine and stops people getting access to our corporate network!

Check to see if the router can run http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index, if it can't buy one that can cheaply (Buffalo ones are good) and use ChiliSpot or something like that on it.

Just thought I would update on this.

DD-WRT works really well, and now using it in various projects, which is excellent, thank you.

Secondly, for the wifi hot spot, will be looking at setting up SputNikNet - there is a paid for service and the free express service, as it's only a small amount of bars, I will go for the free service. More info here > http://www.sputnik.com/products/sputniknet/comparison/

This compares both the free and paid version in regards to functionality.

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks guys.
