New 172 - Oil

When I take delivery of my 172, should I use Mobil 1 from the start or Magnatex or similar...



Any opinions please...

Would move to Mobil 1 at about 10k. As for now the ELF 10w 40 Semi Synthetic stuff is fine. Would be tempted to change the oil at about 3k though as well as the filter to clear out the initial crap.

Do NOT run the car on fully synthetic from the start as it hampers the running in of the engine, so leave the standard oil in there.

Can change early if required, to clean out any cr@p from the running in, but needs a couple of thousand miles on the clock first. Mines done about this now and Im gonna do it soon...

The 172 & Cup should run on 10W40 semi-synthetic oil that conforms to the ACEA A3 standard, so Castrol GTX Magnatec is perfect and Ill be switching to this.

Just coming up to 2400 miles since 16th July, so nowhere near as many as you...

ah well. Back to the mundane commute to work now so 50 miles a week.

yes very good, but just dont use it untill the engine has been run in. By that i mean 10k run in.

I changed oil at 3k still using the semi (Elf) but want to change to synthetic at 12k service. I cant find any mobil1 10/40 or 5/40 locally but ther seems to be loads of 0/40.

youll be able to get 5w -40 Mobil 1 really cheap if you go to France! LOL!

Dont think ive seen it over here, all 0w- 40

Or, 15W50 as I run in my R5 GT Turbo, but that aint cheap!
