New car few questions

Picked it up today and very pleased with it. Like the interior and all the toys (xenons and trip comp are awesome) Done 75k miles but drives well. The handling is very impressive. Dealer just did the cambelt at a cost of £600 Has 12 Months warranty (inc wear and tear) Got it for 4750 - 1500 part ex so i'm financing about 3250 over 1 year at 6% APR.

Few little niggles that I hope you can help me with though.

1) How do the auto wipers work? The auto xenons are fine but wipers are manual? Didn't get the handbook btw as dealer said it got lost :/

2) The airbag light is on, what's that mean?

3) The 'serv' light is lit also, what's that about?

4) Seems to be idling at 500rpm.. surely that's not normal?

5) How do I know if I have an alarm? Theres a flashing light on the dash but can't see the sensors etc?

The car it's self is in very good condition, will get better pics up in the day. Totally standard apart from a twin exit Janspeed exhaust, which i'm not particularly keen on.

The interior is in very good condition too with just the steering wheel showing wear, but all in all i'm happy!

The auto wipers work by pulling the stalk down to postion 1 , then on the stalk there is a selector ring . Turn it away from you speeds up the wiping , towards you slows it down . Can't say what serv light problem is . You need to take it back to the dealer and get them to sort out whatever is causing this light to be on . By the way . The serv light doesn't mean it needs a service . It means there is a problem that needs to be checked out at the dealers .
The airbag light is pretty common . It's usually just a case of wriggling the wires underneath either the passenger or drivers seat , its more often than not just a loose connection .

They should idle at 700rpm +/- 50 .

If the flashing light is next to the speedo , thats the immobiliser light . Factory fitted alarms usually have an led down near the gear stick . If it's an import like mine it could have an led anywhere , mines near the radio .

You can sometimes find the handbooks on ebay , or try a Renault dealership . They might have one .

I tried that earlier with the wipers but it wiped once and that was it!

Hmm I didn't see any LED's, the dealer said it wasn't an import though, any other tell tale signs?

Also on ignition theres a loud buzzing where the interior lights are on the roof... wtf is that?

Theres also a CD changer under the passenger seat but it has a crappy aftermarket unit :/ Do song names get displayed on the dash with a OEM unit? (where it tells the time)

It'll only wipe if there is water on the windscreen . If its set to wipe fast as the rain gets heavier and your driving the wiping speeds up .

The loud buzzing is a little fan in the interior light . Its something to do with the cliamte control . It seems a pretty common fault and can be replaced .

Imports didn't have an alarm , locking wheel nuts and etched windows .

The oem headunit only displays the track number not the name .

If you ring Renault UK customer service they will tell you whether it is a UK model or an import . You can pick up Renault locking wheel nuts pretty cheap on ebay sometimes . I wouldn't bother it if hasn't got etched windows . My only concern would be if it didn't have an alarm .

Renault Cust service Tel . 08000 723 372 . If you give them either your reg number or vin number they'll tell you it's origin .

When I put the wiper to the 1st notch it wiped once and that was it and it was raining? But this morning it seemed ok? Are the sensors at the top of the windscreen behind the rear view mirror?

Is the fan an easy fix? how much?

I have a CD changer but would rather use the stalk controls, what HU can I use with it? Heard adaptors were pricey!

Also I think my rev limit is only set at 6.5k ? Why is that?

Also what type /best type of bulb is best to get for the sidelights as they are yellow and dont complement the xenons at all!

Sensors are at the top of the windscreen. The auto wipers are a bit hit and miss though!! Also find with mine that they won't work after ignition has been off, need to turn wipers off then put them back to intermittent setting to start working again.

Not sure about earlier cars but mine has got alarm sensors on the a-pillars as anpther tell tale sign its there.

Rev limit is usually around 6.5k i think when the engine is cold and rises when its properly warmed up - takes longer than you might think.

Just rung Renault up and been told it's an import! So no it hasn't got an alarm grr.

Also Renault wouldn't tell me what previous service history had been done to it which is pretty stupid imo.

If you were on about the orange indicators next to the xenons, you need silvervision bulbs which can be found anywhere including:

The repeaters seem pricey, are there any on Ebay?

Also I mean the the side lights that come on before the xenons, they look rather yellow compared to the xenons (what fitment are they?). But yeah i'll get the indicators too!

Not sure about fitment for side lights but i'm sure you'll be able to change the bulbs for whiter ones.

The air bag light is a loose connection under the seat. Either disconnect clean and reconnect or take it back under warrenty. Very common problem. The yellow side light bulbs are normal put some LED,s in and it should look like this.
