Well...

...after much searching for a Seat Leon Cupra, the few I've looked at have been tarnished by paint fade which is such a shame!

Managed to blag today off work so decided to go out with dad and organise a look at a couple more yellow ones today, unfortunately, they had the same paint problem, despite low mileage/cambelt being done.

Thankfully though... one of the guys selling the Cupra also had a Monaco Blue 172, completely standard, very very very very very good condition, 70k, serviced but needs a cambelt... part service history and everything in top nick. Took us out and had a quick go and the thing was rapid!
He's going to get a fresh MOT tomorrow for it :star:

So have ended up putting a deposit on it and will hopefully have it next week!:approve:
Although got to wait until start of March before my 2 years NCB kicks in :dapprove:

Make sure the mechanic has the correct locking tools. Unique to the 172 IIRC. Can't be done correctly without them.

Same tools for the 1.4 16v just a slightly different size crank locking pin.

I sold my 172 and bought a Leon Cupra 225...

I hated it and went back to a Clio!

You made the right choice imo!

Thats nice Ali!! Would Renault still shaft me on the cambelt price alone? It's already had a service and Im waiting on a quote from Kings down by Westbury UTD.
