New Clio 1.4 16V Expression but has problems

  Clio 1.4 16V
Hi all, just recently bought a clio 16v 1.4 expression on a 04 plate, now it has done 74,000 miles and without any SH i am wanting to get the Timing Belt and waterpump done, what price should i be looking at, had a quote or around 260 for full kit and waterpump and labour.

Also the car is very rough and shaky when idling, doesnt look like it will stall but as i said very shaky, does it just need a service or could it be something much deeper, another thing is the clutch is rather stiff and the brakes dont feel like they will stop you even though they do, now coming from a 1999 1.2 RT clio is this normal for these cars. thanks for any help

I have just changed the spark plugs with some bosch ones and the lumpy idling seems to have been sorted, after typing my reg into eurocarparts they come up with some HT Leads which i ordered, but where on earth do they go?

Not a bad price but the FULL aux. drive belt kit needs changing at the same time so be sure they do this and not just the belt - There's loads of capable specialist on here that can do the job for you properly... find one in your area matey and give em a nudge. I do this job using genuine parts for £350.00

Just remember that the cheapest route isn't always the best route so make sure that the garage is aware that the engine is a fully floating keyless setup and has the correct tooling to do the job as there's loads out there that don't fully appreciate or understand it which in turn causes them to get it wrong. I've personally seen so many of the K4J/K4M engines with TipEx marks everywhere and the timing being out which shows the job hasn't been done right which causes poor MPG, high emissions, poor engine speed pick up and most importantly terrible power delivery.

Thank you for the reply, i forgot to post in the last post i got the timing belt done, full timing kit was done for 220 they said the waterpump was less than 12months old as it still had the silver sticker on it indicating the manufactures date, or something along those line, i didnt get the AUX belt changed however, is this a necessity and what price am i looking at this seperately. How can i tell if the timing belt has been done properly, the garage who did it was recommended from a neighbour.

After taking the car out for a spin, the lumpy idling still seems to be there but not as rough, what you think, lambda, or the ignition coils, or as you say timing belt done incorrectly.

i have been thoroughly searching though this site and have come to the conclusion i have a 1.4 K4J engine and these dont have HT Leads only coils so eurocarparts have supplied an incorrect part along with a fuel filter which i now understand is inside the tank. Not to worry i can send these back.

Thanks

Well the aux belt has to come off to do the timing belt, so it is very pikey of them to simply reused the same belt.

Lumpy idle could be a dirty throttle body or a sign that a coil is on its way out. As you already know, the K4J doesn't use HT leads, only individual pencil coils.

Ok thanks for that, il have a word and see what he changed. Ill test the coils and see if its anything to do with them.

Thanks

I have tested the coils and they all seem fine. I havnt tried the throttle body as i havent got a clue where it is or what to do. I have noticed the it idles at around 5000rpm and the needle hardly moves when it feels like the car is shaking.

going to be slowly modding it as and when i can but will be a slow process, any ideas will be very welcome

Does anyone have a guide on cleaning the throttle body as i havent a clue what im looking for, also one i been meaning to ask, there is a noise coming fro the front passenger side, it doesnt sound mechanical but probably is, its like a clicking/vibration noise i think, same amount of time everytime it happens, which is when i always set off from starting engine and coming back down off speed bumps, which leads me to think it is a suspension issue.
