New Clio 182

Hi to all members

I wandered into Reg Vardys in Sheffield and placed an order for a 182.

Black gold with all cup packs. It took a week and I picked it up on 1st Sept.Reg YT54***.The car is fantastic but when I boot it in 4th or 5th at over 100mph I get quite a noisy squeal from the gearbox/engine. Any ideas cos renault have told me they cannot test for things over 80mph!Also fluid temp needle when hot drops to bottom and car revs when stationary at 2000rpm and I get a bad smell of fuel outside car, is this a faulty temp sensor telling ecu to overfuel?

Any help would be appreciated.BTW I paid 13224 all in with full tank of fuel and full protection pack,ie headlamp protectors mats, pureguard inside and out!

cheers

Graham

Headlamp protectors??!??
afaik these shouldnt be used on Xenon lights, summat to do with light bending or something.

As for pureguard, bit of a con tbh for what it costs. Dealer gets paid on comission for selling that kind of stuff, hence their eagerness to sell it.

Anyway, enjoy the car! The fuel smell should go soon enough, mine smelt funny for the first few hundred miles.

Actually headlight protectors for the xenon units do exist.
Cool, learn something new everyday.

I thought you werent allowed to use them due to light bending etc, may have to look into ordering a set. Any ideas on cost?

Thanks for replies but the headlamp protectors are genuine renault ones and say renault on them with 2 clips on bottom and a metal clip on the top, beam looks straight enough and when I follow the missus in 307dturbo she says they are non glary!

The car has done almost 700 miles and the fuel smell is only when the idle revs start going up to 2000rpm on their own and the temp needle drops to bottom, great car though any ideas on the gearbox noise, drive bearings?

Cheers

sorry mate dont know the cost alone, protection pack was £339.57 but this was free or rather included in my discount contact renault parts for prices, just need new side lamps and front fog lamps now cos theyre not as white as the xenons, any ideas wot type of bulb is in side and foglamp

cheers

any doubts take the car straight back there and demand your money back and then watch them get some hoops out and jump through them whilst they fix your car...

Mats are free on the 182 are they not?

Anyway, do you mean the car idles at 2000 rpm when hot and only when youve had the temp guage reset, and then you get the fuel smell?

Regardless, 2000 RPM is too high for a steady idle. It could be the sensor, assuming all these things happen serially.

Wheres the smell of fuel coming from ? Exhaust or engine bay? I know of a few cars (not renaults tho) that have caught fire (I kid you not) due to unburnt fuel combusting in the cat.

Ive had a blocked breather pipe causing a similar fuel smell problem in the past on another car - but unlikely on such a new car.

Thanks for all replies I cant do too many posts cos Ive just joined last night and am limited until I get my membership pack.

The fuel smell is when the engine is hot, needle drops, rpm at 2000rpm when idling and tickover is very lumpy although I raced a scooby last night and the problem seamed to be cured after the race, We both pulled over after to admire the cars in Dudley Birmingham. Nice race neck and neck, he couldnt believe the performance!

Still Im booked in to have the car checked over

Its a few years ago now but i had a brand new Astra Sport, problems developed and i got messed around so i stormed in and threw my keys on the table,i told them the car was a piece of sh*t and i wanted my old car back.

To cut a long story short they actually replaced the car but i made enquiries and took professional advice etc and was told i was lucky. The dealership was not at liberty to replace the car but they had an obligation to repair faults. Not sure if this still stands but if thats right then its down to the dealer,i doubt there will be many who did what mine did.

Kicking off in a dealership does seem to get results sometimes.

you cant change the fogs, very special fitment, you can howvere like me change main beam and sidelights to blue vision, much whiter blends better with the xenons.

get silver vision for indicators too.

Are the blue visions literally blue? i.e like you see on boyracered escorts or are they more of a "brilliant white"?

Thats not a bad price when I rang Reg Vardy in Sheffield they said we sell 182 for the full list price. Ended up buying it from Reg Vardy Rotherham

I got a better price from Reg vardy Sheffield than at my local Renault dealer on Bilston Road Wolverhampton, thats why I travelled to Sheffield to get it.

Theyre obviously telling you porkies and dont want the trade because of the Modus launch!

the bulb to look at is bright blue, but when lit in the headlamp they are brilliant white, but unfortunately next to xenons they sill look yellow, next o normal headlights they are whiter though. some people have got led side lights wich are closest match to the xenons

I got my Cup from there. Where you from. Theres a few local cliosporters round here and we have some good meets. I live in wickersley rotherham by the way. Cant help you with the problems but be mardy and the dealer will fix it. Make friends with richy who works at reg vardy rotherham and when it needs fixin you know you aint got a arsehole thrashing it from cold.

Hes got a nice williams and is a great guy. When mine needed some stuff doing i told him and made sure he got the job. Made me feel better about leaving the car.
