New Clio Sport - Will this lower the price of our old clio 172 and 182?

How will you think this will affect the market price of a 172 or 182?

Also are the 172 cup holding their money better than the standard 172?

IMO the new 197 will not greatly effect the market price of either the 172 or the 182 as the new car is a larger car which renault are trying to aim at a slightly different market, i.e. they have gone for a more upmarket, better put together proposition and hence have maybe detracted from the rawness of the 172/182 (this may only be the case, and may change when we actually get behind the wheel of the 197).

From what i've seen the mark 3 hasn't caused huge depreciation in the equivalent models of marks 2's as there are plenty of people who'd rather the more compact clio so hopefully this be the same for the renaultsports.

As for 172 cups and 172s, i'd say 172 cups are holding their value better considering they didn't cost as much to purchase when new.

Personally, yes.

When the mk2 172 came out the mk1 172 prices took a drop, when the 182 cam out the 172 prices took a drop.

Its progression at the end of the day. The 197 replaces the 182. I think you'll see a value decrease for sure. Its always the way.

I can't see a lot happening price wise on the 172 / 182s, they are just so bloody cheap anyway.

They can't get any cheaper. I can't think of any car that you can get for that cheap that goes as fast and is that age.

totally agree with you sh33n.

Obviously they are going to depreciate as any car does (renaults more so than others unfortunately) but I just can't see the introduction of the 197 causing them to crash so to speak.

But only time will tell, at the end of the day its what people are willing to or actually pay for cars that determines prices.

I shouldnt suspect the new clio will alter the value of older clios as they are sooo very differnet.

172 cup 1400 grand at 1 point , paid 11k for mine brand new b4 182 came out . so 182s will be cheap to buy new as well , depreciation , dont ask , in 2 yrs mine prob worth 7-8k now :( :( :( ;) not sellin though

i think like cupcake says its a fact of life that a car will always lose some value when a new model is released. TBH there aint many cars that your gonna make money on, unless your lucky and get one of the first minis off the production line for example, and sell it straight away. UK suffers from its own success in a way, market is flooded with 172's/182's etc, lots of competion drives prices down. Here in holland there is no market for hot hatches, if u ebay search Clio RS/172 /cliosport here in holland you dont find one used 172 for sale, and they never sold cups. Even that doesn't effect used value that much, only thing that keeps second hand values high is brand and build. I just went and got quotes for Focus RS, Megane 225 and Golf Gti, despite being 4,000 quid more expensive than the Ford and renault, the lease price i was offered was 100 euros a month cheaper on the golf.

totally agree

Also agree....as someone said, it's just progression.

I still think the prices for good, clean examples of the 172/182 with standard parts/wheels etc on will stabilize.

  Megane Mk4
They are also still selling 2 models of the mk2 phase 2 shape clio's new too. So I wouldn't have thought the prices will change or be affected too much ;)

Renault's hardly keep their value in the first place. Doesn't help when you can buy a 182 from dealer at £15.5k and at supermarket for £12k. Then the whole debate over why dealer cars are better rages on when at the end of the day you are paying several grand more for essentially teh same thing, less an alarm or something.

If you are worried about depreciation you don't buy brand new. You let the first owner take that hit.

And Yes I think the 197 will mean a lower price for the 182/172. But then people will be buying the 172 and 182 for the reason I mention, they will be older and not everyone can afford a new car so the older they get the more attainable to some the become.

I don't see it makiing a huge difference the cars loose a load anyway maye a few hundred more off but nothing of any magnitude ie £1k.

I think the prices will go down when the 197 is released, but people who want at cheap car that will keep them smiling will look at a 172/182, and pay good money for a clean example one...

Tyson.
