new clutch (182) smoke on start up!!!

  182
Ive just gone to pick my car up from renault after having a new clutch fitted.

As I started my car within a few seconds of start up I noticed some smoke so got out popped the bonnett up and there is smoke coming from the back of the engine I suppose rising from the manifold area.

It did start off light but seem to get worse, so I turned it off got someone to come have a look.

There wasnt any techs around coz is was late but the dude who came out said its more than likely some oil where they had been working etc coz the gearbox has been out.

He said I should drive it away it should burn off but if it still does it in the morning I should come back, to be honest I didnt like his attitude and he definatly didnt seem 100% that, that was the problem, so I just left it there so a techy can look at it in the morning..

Im pretty sure I made the right decision??

Is this more than likely the problem?

anybody know if it could be another problem?

I would have thought after fitting a new clutch they would have road tested it so wouldnt the oily residue have burnt off from that?

Anyone share any knowledge on this??

Cheers
Rob.

diagnosys sounds about right to me mate, if they get even an oily hand or rag on the manifold it will stink and a blue haze will show should burn off though, shame they didnt degrease the area after fitting tho!

To be honest mate I am settling to that explanation but I would have thought it would have burnt off when they did the test drive???
I also noticed that on the coil pack looked like it was all wet maybe with oil??

its nothing,.. they has split a bit of gearbox oil on the mani...they must have toped it up from the top up point on the top of the box..it will burn off nothing will happen

I dont think there was anything wrong with the original clutch I just happened to mention it to the tech when I was having something else done. and He said they could change it coz it used to get a bit juddery once warm thats all really I just thought what the hell get it done!
He used to own a 172 cup and he said thats what his used to do so he changed it...
