New country! New whip! (Jap content)

Sooooooo both tyres don't hold pressure, but I managed to pump one up and it lasted just enough so i could properly test fit it.

Sits pretty flush with the guard, will probably put 225/235 tyres on the rear (think they need to be at least a 235 on a 9" wide tyre to pass a cert, SUX)

Needs moar coilovers.

Got some new blue extended wheel nuts as the other ones were too big for the hole (giggedy), makes quite a bit difference to the look of the wheel I reckon.

Comparing the two you can really see the difference in size, means I can go lower :D

Need to read up on how low you're allowed to go to pass a cert.

Also had a quick look while the car was jacked up, the springs don't look chopped (bogans that rip mad skidz do this for lowz, dickheads.) which is a bonus (Y)

After changing the wheel nuts/test fitting the wheel, the car didn't wanna start, just clicks when I try start it, I reckon its dead battery or starter motor, did try jump starting it from my dads car, but no luck.
Gonna get the AA man out tomorrow to come fix it (Y)

Battery dead by the sounds of it, get a charger and charge over night or a boost pack, if that don't work jack car up, find starter (on side of bell housing on gearbox) give it a tap with a hammer then try....

but ur sounds like battery

why are tyres not holding air?

Are you a fan of MCM?? possibly worth checking out their Turbos and Temples vid, they went to Japan and all the stuff over there is aparently really cheap!!? They're aussie so in the grand scheme of things arent that far... haha, maybe worth getting on their forum and seeing if there are any good deals on there? i know a lot are into their jdm etc..... haha.

nice car :) was i the only one who liked the old white dash plastic?!?!

Imo, a nice cheap thing to do but would improve the aesthetics a lot for me, would be to either remove the 6x9s or change to a stealth parcel shelf!? dont know whether possible on these cars... but just think it would clean up the car a considerable amount :)

Yep I'm on MCM and have a build thread there and have watched most of their videos.

Yes you were definitely the only one that liked the white dash :p

It is cheap but shipping + tax puts the prices up.

6x9's aren't too bad IMO, will probably upgrade them at some point.

ah ok cool, haha yeah but i just like b+w hehe...

i'm same age so super jealous :p haha

maybe its just because they're yellow that they stand out so much! :S hehe

Well charge the battery or stick a volt meter on the battery it might be properly dead

Spent fookin' ages tryna fit these bad boys...

Ended up chopping up the original pocket which can be seen here:

11111379025_e6bd418def_c.jpg

Untitled by danedser, on Flickr

And gluing the faceplate which came with the gauges on, only to find the faceplate was way too big, so I used a dremel tool to sand/grind it down quite a bit, drilled a hole in the back of the pocket to get wires & sensors etc through.

Then tried to get the sensors through the firewall into the engine bay, found a grommet which is in the passenger footwell, but the other side is under the inner arch liner, so I jacked the car up with a scissor jack (****ing hate these things) undone most of the screws/clips that I could (couldnt get the arch liner completely off), ripped some of the arch liner, couldn't cut a hole in the grommet or fit any on the sensors through it as was such an awkward angle to work at, thought **** dis s**t I need a proper jack and axle stands so I can take the wheel off and work on the car so much easier.

So after all that BS, the glue had dried on the faceplate/din pocket so went to fit that, screwed it into the head unit cage, yeah that looks about right, went to fit the dash surround back in, aaaaaaaaaand the faceplate is still too big.

HKS Gauges by danedser, on Flickr

Oh wellz need to sand some more of the faceplate off to get it to fit right, and get proper tools to be able to work on the car easier then jobs a gooden.
I would have only put the sensors into the engine bay and cable tied them somewhere as I am gonna fit the oil sandwich plate and ooolant temp sensor when I next service the car to make it easier.

Gauges look good though.

I would bet the rims are actually leaking air, spray soapy water around the join inside and I bet you will see bubbles, that is if they are 3 piece?

Gauges look look good, go careful with the pressure one looks like it's the oil to gauge type which means if you split the copper pipe u get a car full of oil....

The rims rather than the tyres? IDK, the tyres are really old and cracked

Cheers will do

If they are 3 piece, rim, barrel and centre then the rim to barrel sealant has prob rotted and letting the air out.

Kind of an update but not really an update.

Soooo since last update I've ran the sensors through the car and into the engine bay... bit of a mish that was. Got proper jacks and stands now so working on the car is alot easier now (Y)

So to get to the grommet to poke the sensors through you need to take the arch liner off.

Jacked the car up etc took the wheel off and BAM

Cheeky slip on... That should be certed.

So this is the state of the arch liner...

Would the wheel really have done that much damage?! Scraped on bumps and full right lock too which sucks arse.

Anyway so while taking it off, came across these scrivet clips which were a pain in the arse, you're meant to unscrew the middle bit to get them out, but the plastic was just so soft the screw driver was doing jack s**t and just spinning rounding the screw

Sorted.

Took a good look at the grommet... Yep that's the boost gauge vacuum line with a nice big kink in it. Sweet.

12355933524_e1ea9559d1_c.jpg

Untitled by danedser, on Flickr

Cut the kink out, connected it all back in and poked it through the grommet a bit more so there was nothing to kink.

12355496345_8255c5f249_c.jpg

Untitled by danedser, on Flickr

Then just poked a hole in the gromment, fed the sensors through, followed the other wires up into the engine bay and cable tied them in the engine bay ready to fit them.

Ran it like that for a while with no inner arch liners, but was a bit worried about taking it out in rain incase the loom gets ruined by water...

Made a pick a part run today, (my first time, that place is huuuuuuuge! Didn't really know where to look aha) found the r33, sweeeeeeet arch liner's still there and it isn't f*cked. Win.

Also tried trimming the faceplate on the gauges down some more but made a right mess with it so might just see if I can buy a proper din mount for them. Bit of a faff but if it means it doesn't look s**t, then might as well do it.

Effort.

Did a coolant flush and thermostat change today. Basically a certified mechanic right?

Anyways it didn't fix the issue of nearly overheating when starting when up to temp or sitting about in traffic.

Don't think it'd be the radiator as the coolant that came out was really clean. Thermostat looked pretty old and the rubber was starting to perish so probably a good thing I changed that for a new one.

Installed the temp gauge adapter... IT FITS! AND IT WORKS!

It's weird 'cause the HKS gauge doesn't really budge and sits around 70-75 (sounds about right?) but the one on the dash shoots up nearly to the first line to say YEAH IT'S PRETTY HOT. When I first bought the car it wasn't getting up to temp, so got some work done under warranty and the temp sender had died so they replaced that so it can't be the temp sender...

Any ideas?

Also got an uprated radiator cap as I thought it might help... Unfortunately not :/

I'm not so sure... The gauge on the dash might be on the piss.

These two photo's were taken at the same time (after the flush and thermostat change, I used a genuine nissan thermostat), normal operating temp is 77-80 degrees.

You did bleed the system properly I take it? If the fan is cutting in and out as it should and both top and bottom hoses are hot there shouldn't be a problem.

No updates. Temp gauge on dash regularly says it's overheating but HKS gauge says it's fine so I've just been ignoring it.

Went for a hoon and found some decent places for some photo's so took the DSLR and went for a shoot with Ryan and his civic.

Got dark pretty quick and only just finished it so potato pics will be reet.

Just need to get a longer cable for the ground on the edge amp and then trim it in alcantara, then job's a goodun.

How it used to be:

14123772358_34c4f4cab6_b.jpg

Untitled by danedser, on Flickr

Subs not working yet but I suspect the RCA cables fucked or I need to fiddle with the new Alpine head unit I bought xD forgot to take pics, but it's pretty nice. 3 RCA outs too which means I can amp all the speakers.

Also found some more surface rust under the rear seats which I'm sorting out like a baws. No pics as just jumped straight in when I saw it.

No one likes to look at rust anyways.

Oh yer and had 2 resonators welded in the exhaust to keep pc plod away. Got told it was too loud and if they catch me again they would pink sticker me (order car off the road, read: spendy)

Turns out the Vibe RCA cable I brought with me from England was fucked :/ oh well, just used the one that was there before and all is working well :)

Ignore slanted middle gauge... connection on the back of it is fucked and the light only works at certain angles :/
