New Disc's + Pads needed

  E39 M5
What is the general consensus with regards to the best way upgrde the 172 cups Brakes. I will be looking at new Pads + Disc's soon. The car is only driven for 1-2 days a week and mainly on the motorway or to the shops. I am looking for more pedal feel and a greater intial bite.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

If you've no problem with stock pads there a superb pad.
However if you've every had any fade or do track days etc then get some ds2500 pads.
As for disks well I'd stick with normal ones or maybe the Brembo OE ones which have wear markers on them. However there reputed to be poorer quality although the wear markers are good.
Make sure you fully bleed the brakes as that will make the biggest difference.

The last set of pads i had fitted were EBC Green Stuff, Not as god as i thought they would be. To be honest they were rubbish when cold.

Who make's DS2500 ? Also how much difference will braided hose's make ?

tarox discs and pads plus id put some braided hoses on, i had them fitted on my old 172 and they were top notch and reasonably priced. Its suprising what a difference just the braided hoses will make.

i've got tarox discs & pads and i really like them, i think a few people on here dont rate them but i can only comment on my own experience

Ferodo make the DS2500. There £80 or 85 from Demon Tweeks or YozzaSport.

They will make a difference but there biggest advanatage si when there hot on hard driving etc they won't get any weeker.

Braaided hoses well personally if you do track days or hard road driving there a good idea and well worth the £50 or so that they cost however I'd stick with some good brakes fluid personaly instead and save the money if you do need to upgrade you can still do it but if your happy without you've saved £50.

the set up i have is standard pads and discs on the rear (these don't do much of the braking) and standard discs and ferodo ds2500 pads at the front and imo works very well, unless you track it you wount need anything else, they have a very good initial 'bite', and i've not had any fade really, it does get some hammer
too!

do it

I need some standard rear discs and pads on my Mk2 172. Where would i get them from and how much?

Not keen on going to Renault as im sure they will be expensive from the dealer.

i just got them from a motor factors, remember to get the rear discs WITH the bearings in...... as you can buy the discs without bearings but imo its worth renewing the lot when its off

well the rear bearings (for two) on their own were 53.00, can't find the discs receipt but i think around the £40 mark...... and around 15 for the pads?

  cock mobile.
I've got tarox pads at the front everything else is standard.

Works well; defo felt a difference with those pads.

DS2500 + std disc or Brembo (cheep) BUT GET SOME UPGRADED BRAKE FLUID AND LINES THEY ARE essential if you do track days..
