New engine

Hi, anyone know the cheapest route to a new engine?

My pals 182 shattered a piston last week, cause as yet seems unclear. Anyone heard of this type of thing before? I wasn't aware they were known for major failures of this type. Car is 4.5 years old and only done 27k miles.
