New guy from Manchester

Just thought I would introduce myself, my name is Jon and I'm 22 from Manchester. In the next week ill be looking to buy a 172, not sure yet wether or not I want a cup. I doubt I will get a decent cup for my budget. Budget is 1500ish can go for more but dont really want to. If anything comes up let me know, closer the better. Can't wait to buy my new weekend toy!

Welcome!

There are some bargains out there.

Have a read up on here regarding cambelt changes and see if the car has been done recently and more importantly by someone who knows what they're doing with the correct timing tools. If it is due one budget a few £££ for it doing by a specialist on here

Thanks for the welcomes, G... That's my first question when I phone them lol I believe they can be costly.

And I'm from Oldham so all fairly close! Have to come on a meet when I get one. Just sold a 1.2 16v after painfully gathering no claims :D so I'm pretty excited to buy one!

Good stuff, there's usually something going on in and around Manchester, so keep your eyes on the area section.

We should be sorting a RR day soon, so it could be good to get your new 172 on a dyno, and see how it's running :)

Sounds like a good plan to me! If its too soon ill have to pedal a bike quickly haha

  172 Cup
Welcome.

You'll have to shop around carefully, there are some right munters out there. You might have better luck if you avoid dealers, most look at you like you're a martian when you ask about timing belts and think sheared bolts and don't even check the oil on a car before taking it in part ex. and unless you want to pay ~£500 to get it done, find one with the full timing/aux/dephaser job done by a specialist. Don't be shy about calling up and asking when the timing was done and who by, if they can't tell you that just hang up. Don't be scared by high milages. If ad says anything about lady owners, run.
I ended up going for a Cup and for me it's worth it, even if it's a bit tough on me old tail bone. No ABS either. Or TC. Or Aircon. My. Kind. Of. Car.
Just dropped my boss off at the garage to pick up his van, he commented on my airbag light and legality of driving with it on, from there we went to ABS faults, not sure he was ecstatic when I pointed out I didn't have any. At least it's not faulty?

haha the cup is what i hope for, im only 22 but i hate anything that alters my input to the pedals, the less control the car has the better, i like to wear some tighter trainers and feel my way through the throttle and braking...also, got a cup lined up for a viewing this weeeeeekend! im now a happy lad!
