New Key

How much is a new key?? Is there a cheap way around it? I.e could you just get one cut without the alarm. I just need a back up!

Lost your spare? You can take the blade out and take it to a locksmith to get a non-electric one cut.

New full key is £120ish + coding from Renault last time I ordered one (over a year ago).
They have to be ordered in specifically for your hypercar from France.

You jest?!

I only got one Dan! Will the car start with just the cut key. Or will that not immobilise it??

The cut key will only get you in the car via the lock on the passenger door. It won't disable the alarm or start the car.

I'm afraid I'm deadly serious... lots of moneys for a little key! You can't even buy one cheap off ebay, as they come pre-coded for your specific car.

Thinking about it, last time I ordered one was getting for 3 years ago... how times flies!

  Mondeo TXS Bardge.
we have a wee guy that comes into our work (keyfast) what cars if for ali? the vee i take it.
stuart would probably do one for under a £100 supplied cut and coded. there is probably a guy like that in the yellow pages.

Ali what kind of key is it, is it a card

if its a card then they are all issued from Renault France, locked to the chassis number of the car they are ordered for, so your Ebay ones wont work, and 99% of mobile key places dont do them as the machinery costs, and blank cards, are too expensive, actually cheaper from the dealers, i was speaking to a mobile key fella about these the other week

your looking at about £175 inc coding from a dealer

  Skoda Fabia vRS
its more than likely a 'blank' one then, your local dealer will have them in stock ready to be coded in

My understanding is that you can buy a second-hand key, swap out the 'used' key blade for a new one and re-code it to your car's ECU quite simply. Even with only one 'master' key.

I'm currently investigating this route, and will feedback in due course...

...Sod paying £120 for one!!

you can't recode a key thats already been coded. They come from france coded for your immob. All they do at the dealer is program them for your alarm/locking.
strangely, you can have a maximum of 2 keys coded to a car.

Try Matt Black, they have keys immobilisers etc in stock I believe - he'll give you well rounded answer I'm sure

Definately can't re code a key. If you do decide to order a new one make sure you order the blade too. I ordered a new key about 18 month ago and when it arrived it was without the blade, had to wait another week for that to arrive. Was £130 for the plip and coding and around £12 for a new blade

Better to not order the blade, but get it cut yourself incase the locsk were ever changed. I paid £70ish for the fob, 2 week wait from Renault, and about half hours labour to code it for my car. Was about a year ago but don't think much change in price.

I actually started my car with just the blade, the fob was about 20ft away. It started, then I turned it off immediately as I was just checking the cut of the blade was ok, put it in the fob and then realised WTF?! Too much hassle to take it out and investigate.

Is this something you have to get done through Renault or can locksmiths code these on the cheap?
