New Member and Trophy Question

  Renault Clio Trophy
Hi people

I hope you are all well

I am about to buy (hopefully) a Clio Trophy. My bro has a Trophy so I am aware of some of the pitfalls.

4 things came up as advisories on the MOT today and I would love to hear your thoughts:

(I am also getting a full RAC check before I buy to identify any other issues)

1. Chip in windscreen which has been filled
2. Nearside road wheel slightly distorted bead rim
3. Exhaust system slightly deteriorated
4. Rear shock absorber light misting of oil

I understand the chip, slight wheel buckle and worn exhaust can all be common things for a Trophy. I am concerned more about theshock absorber as I know the shocks can potentially cost a fortune!

Do you think this could be a major problem? Are the rears as expensive as fronts? How much to fix?

I would really appreciate any information you can provide.

Thanks muchly

Welcome to CS.

The trophy damper refurbs can cost a small fortune but it's to be expected when buying a trophy. None of the things seem to much of a concern to me.

This is my bro! He is aware about refurb's costs, removal etc etc. as i had mine done only a couple of weeks ago. I only had my fronts done and as you can see it seems the T he is looking at is misting oil at the rear. I'm sure the rears are cheaper to re-place and refurb as there is no external resivoir but we are both unsure of a prices as we've never come across threads of people talking about the rears as of yet. Also if i'm sure BG will confirm this with him tomorrow but weather they are also Gas and oil like the fronts? He is going to call BG tomorrow to ask about a price so no worries there it's more of a case of the other items on the car that he is looking for input where other owner have experienced any similar experiences.

The slightly distored bead rim? Any had one like this before? Just a case of ordering a new turini or can the be reasonable repaired? Still passed the MOT so can't be to bad!

The Windscreen and exhaust are more common sense things, all us clio sport owners know the standard exhaust is a complete rust bust and windscreen has been filled so should be ok.

This is my bro!

He is aware the Sach dampers can be refurbed as i had mine done a couple of weeks ago so he has knowledge regarding costs, removal, Compaines etc etc. It's more a case that the T he is looking into is misting on the rear! I haven't personally come across many threads where owners have had the rears refurbed as they are most propably less prone to leak etc and it seems they are re-placed more that refurbed which would lead me to believe they are cheaper units? (He'll find this out tomorrow when phoning BG)
The fact that they have no external resivior making the units simplier (Made up word?) aslo make me think this.

Anyway it more a case of the other item regarding this T. It would be good if any other owners not necessarily Trophy owners could give their experiences with any similar issues.

Anyone experienced having a distorted bead rim? Is it a simple and cheap job to straighten out or is it better just to buy a new Turini? I believe it passed this passed MOT so can't be to bad!

We all know as CS owners the standard exhaust is a complete rust bucket so that's the be expected and the chip has been filled so that all good.

Sorry for the double post computer problems. Can a moderator please delete my post above this. Thanks

Brand new shock's for the rear are ~£120each +VAT (See Pearce, as he bought them new. Same as the 182 CUP dampers. Receipt here for them: http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?589410-Trophy-Front-And-Rear-Suspension&highlight=)

BG don't really refurb them as I asked them the same question last week.

IMO, I'd buy brand new shocks, they arn't that much + come with a warranty from renault.

Exhaust - Replace
Chip - Fine, poss new windscreen if you are arsey

Not sure about the wheel, maybe see if anybody can fix it?

*According to West Renault's Price list : 182 cup / cup packed rear shocks - 8200681125 - £48.87 inclusive of VAT. Possibly they aren't the same as whats on the T. (http://www.cliosport.net/forum/show...rts-NEW-PRICES!-please-check-in-here-first***)
