New member - Battery/Alternator Issue?

Hello

I have a '03 Renault 172 and cannot get it started. The car won't even tick over and this all began with the battery light coming on midway through driving. At the time the light remained on unless i revved the engine hard.

Tried to start the car the following morning and nothing. Unable to jump it as the battery is holding barely any power and cuts out after a few seconds. I then charged the battery which gave it enough juice for a buzz around the block but once I turned the engine off, I tried to start it again and nothing.

Would be grateful if anyone has got any suggestions battery/alternator or something I haven't thought of.

It does sound like you need a new battery. If it is the original battery from when the car was built, it's 8yrs. old now, way past it's sell by date.

If you get it started then disconnect the battery (Negative first) to rule out the alternator

Common for the main alternator lead to snap off. easy to see

Thanks guys. Going to have a check on the alternator and the lead tonight and will let you know how it goes

Thanks for all your advice again. Checked it out and it was the alternator!
