NEW sound system comming!

  "Navy" N17 TWO

Just wondering what everyone has installed in their boot...

Im running around the country getting advice and prices of a speaker system for my JVC h/u

http://erc.qmuc.ac.uk/cliosport/gallery/full/1091669210__DSCF0050.jpg

Sorry 4 the bad pic but you can just about see it

Dont want to use up too much space in the boot - into outdoor pursuits, need the gear space :)

Was thinking of this Vibe sub with built in mono amp

http://erc.qmuc.ac.uk/cliosport/gallery/full/1093265109__vibecbr12active.jpg

What speakers are recomended to replace the Reno standards?

All comments welcome, and cheers in advance (y)

better and smaller alternative is the sony xsaw200x ( think that is part number).

same sort of thing but an 8" in a vented box design, built in amp and is also on a plug so can be completely removed from car.

retail at £180 but shop around or ebay and youll see them for half that.I have never heard one that sounded bad in any car.

personally i wouldnt bother with Sony car audio, you can get better quality for the same money, latest stuff is all very cheap, open up one of there amps and you will see what i mean

if you use your boot id probably suggest something with bars across the sub, or a bandpass box so that the sub is enclosed inside a box

the Vibe stuff is generally quite good

basically though whats your budget

What brun said plus its possible to get a VIBE grill for about £20 or so. Great sub, got one myself and think for the money it would be hard to beat.

  "Navy" N17 TWO

Il take a look Audio one I want the grill anyways Brun

EvilJohn - you have the sub box with the grill over it - looks cool, seen one in my local audio store.

Ive had experiences with sony music equipment before - they make "nice looking" stuff but you can get better quality for same or less £ IMHO

Ive never had anything more than a h/u with standard spkers in the 3 Clios ive had - so its a little confusing putting this stuff together.

Will a 10" sub make the same vibrations as a 12" ?

what do i look for to compare the quality of amps, subs and speakers?

I dont know my arse from my elbow when it comes to the technical end of it but i was interested in these

not sure on what to replace the front/dash spkers with?

Once again, all comments welcome - thanks in advance

im assuming that you guys have never heard the sony powered box before then, absolutely awesome for the money.

Ive fitted them in anything upto as big as a 7 series bmw and they perform really well... the chambered and ported box design gives great output for an 8" woofer and it is completely removeable when the whole boot is needed.

in answer to your question a 10" woofer can produce the same amount of volume as a 12" but in general a 12" will play lower than a 10", and on flip side a 10" will generally play higher up the frequency range or tighter bass... there are always exceptions and a budget will help you to narrow the choices down

^ ive heard a few of the sony subs, in the xpold range, the quality was god awfull IMO. i dont think the issue about the box being acitve is an issue, as you can just screw the amp onto the side of the box.

you could do a lot better job getting say an Resonant engineering (sp) re8 putting it in a .5 box tuned to 34hz, give it about 250 rms, at it will destoy those, and prob be cheaper, and defo be much better value than active boxes

re 8

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=2980http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=2980 - dual 4 ohm voice coild so would need an amp that could run at 2 ohm. - prob could order one for same price that is dual 2 so could be run at 4 ohm

if dual 2

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=2700&tab=2http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=2700&tab=2 - could be good

this would prob do either

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=2755&tab=2http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=2755&tab=2 - as long as gains were set carefully and low, the re would probably take the 350 rms ( i gave mine 300 each (but they were in sealed boxes) (these will drop as low as a 12" you really have to hear these new 8" to belive it)

so will those items i posted in the pics work ok with eachother?

going to look about component spkers 2moro maybe

well if you post the stats of each of these items - power in RMS and power handeling in RMS ect

But IMO they are crap, and expensive crap at that. but its your car and your money

Trevq - How do you rate that head unit, Ive been looking at getting it to replace the JVC Chamelien (sp) that I currently have. How many pre-outs does it have, and does it have a seperate sub pre-out and aux line?

I love the features on my current HU and the fact that it flat panel and caompletely black when you switch off. But I really like the look of the unit you have.

Cheers

i dont know much bout the stats

i was going by looks mor than anything - i can find out tho

that h/u is pretty cool - WAT IS A PRE OUT?

it does hav sub- out i do know that

id give it 9.5 /10

sorry but im crap at the tech end of things - unless its the human body or a computer - i know dam all about parts

Those vibe sqaure 6x9s are 175w rms! Use them instead of a sub if you want them, on a mdf shelf.

Having said that Im know running with just comps and sub, like the sound quality.

A pre out is the part of the stereo that you connect the rca cables that go to the amp with the signal. A sub out is a pre out specifically for subs

  "Navy" N17 TWO

anyone ever heard of speakers made by Focal ?

went to Audio Advice today - set of Focal comps for the front - awesome sound! (cost 220 fitted with sound deadening in the doors) THIS GOOD?

was told if im puttin in a sub that its better idea to put money into better fronts than pay the money for 6x9s in the parcel shelf

wat ur ops ?

Trev

your buying somehting thats primary design is for sound, for looks? sorry but to me that sounds strange! if its in you boot, its hidden unless your going for a showy install, if its in your parcel self it will attract theives, if in a stealth shelf, why go for looks? as its hidden!

  "Navy" N17 TWO

i walked into that 1 :p

good point on security though

im thinking of getting a vibe sub with built in amp and a set of good comps for front now.

not sure on an amp for the speakers.

can i replace the origional rear spkers with sumfin better?

Currently installed in my boot i have a spare wheel and a jacket that i left in there a while ago. Id only ever put in a 10" sub, an amp and front components. About the rears, theres not really much point upgrading rear speakers. Spend the money you would on the rears, on getting better fronts.

Ta, Andy

^ seconded, peopl dont belive this until they hear it, i have rears feeding off my HU, when i turn them on, the sound stage gets pulled back and it sounds nasty - set your fornt up properly and youl do well!

  "Navy" N17 TWO

will the origional rear speakers be ok to fade the sound into the back using the h/u ?

i like fading some music to the back for the "theater" effect on my h/u.

or would i need better coaxils in the rear for this?

  "Navy" N17 TWO

just going to change the fronts first, then see how it goes.

the budget is split now - getting my spoiler and bonnet scoop soon

Ok, if its a renault spoiler thats ok but my god, youre wanting an air scopp on your 1.5 diesel clio. Sorry but subtle is the key and thats just not subtle. you may even call is chavage.

Ta, Andy

  "Navy" N17 TWO

you have a point andy - whatever all that jibberish really ment

im going to get the koncept spoiler :devilish:

i had a bonnet scoop on my old clio - loved it, but it was a stuck-on type

i guess it would look a little silly on a diesel. sets the bonnet off well though -

http://erc.qmuc.ac.uk/cliosport/gallery/full/1093547001__DSCF0132b.jpg

might just save the 60 quid on the bonnet and put it towards my rear speakers (£99) :)

that way ill end up with music to fill the rear and good comps in the front

all opinions welcome :D

listen to rorrie...

i would deffo go for an re8 from <A target=_blank href= "http://www.caraudiodirect.comwww.caraudiodirect.com like he said, maybe search for a cheap 2 channel maystar/mac audio.magnat amp that can be bridged to run 2ohm stable.

a lot better than vibe subs and all most active subs are crap in my opinion, should also be cheaper and you could always strap the amp to the box bingo...

DONT GET SONY.

generally there are 2 golden rules to car audio

DONT BUY SONY

DONT BUY 6*9S

6*9s can get destroyed if running with a sub in the back and they sound awful anyway

to the guy asking if we have ever heard a sony sub. IMO i dont need to hear them, the build quality and materials is crap on all of them, now how many RE subs have you heard???

[Edited by NeiLD0wN on 27 August 2004 at 7:32pm]

oh and from the front, the focals would be great but sound arse if not amped up, similar with any comps reeally, you couldnt go wrong with dls r5a really neither

ive heard a few lol

decent fronts and sub

why do u need rear fill , the only reason is 2 keep the people in the back happy

sod em and invest more on the rest of the set up

  "Navy" N17 TWO

im not gettin the sub for now - just going to replace the speakers

dont worry - il not be getting the 6x9s - wat thieves dnt know is there wont harm them

not sure on amps either - more electrics draining power from the battery :(

dont like that idea - plus the weight. kills the fun a little but i need my fuel economy

il think about my amps and a sub when i know for sure it wont drink the diesel or the battery.

youve got a diesel, why worry about fuel.

if you are worried though about weight, why not go for a four channel amp, saves messing with more wires and surely lighter than 2 seperate amps.

  "Navy" N17 TWO

mpg - the more the merrier

first thing im doin is getting the speakers - focal all round

a focal 11" sub is costing about 200 with a 2chnl amp, fitted.

il get the speakers first - see how they go, i might be happy enough with those alone
