and they do other nice stuff too!
and they do other nice stuff too!
Only the crownwheel if they mount it the same way as Quaife diffs are. It's basically 4 ball bearings and a bit of loctite on Quaifes for the jc5.Would this need any machining to install then?
Eu so no import taxes......Interesting to see how much shipping, import taxes and maching would come to, surely will still be a few hundred cheaper than other available options still?
Nah more like £60-£70 for the machining. That's about what Quaife chargeSo roughly £550 for the diff, say £50 postage and what, £150 maching costs?
Yeah definitely is. It all comes down to how it performs. I can get grippers and quaifes at half right prices, but even I'd be tempted!Looks like quite a good deal then, £650ish compared to £1000 plus for quaife or gripper
Cheaper materials and cheaper machining costs. Potentially. But it says it comes with a lifetime warranty. Is this a case of you get what you pay for? How can it be that much cheaper than a quaife atb?
I have a Torsen diff on my Mazda. 19 years old and it still functions as it should!
Just to clarify my above statement regards the cheaper materials, I'm not meaning to a lesser spec, I'm meaning in terms of material cost to purchase. It's a large billet that's needed to manufacture a jc5 diff.Cheaper materials and cheaper machining costs. Potentially. But it says it comes with a lifetime warranty.
This is a good videoWhat actually is the difference between a torsen and a Quaife?
I thought the Quaife was a torsen as the name implies the priciple ie TORque SENsing
There is one guy on Renaulttuning that has bought one:
very good video, but are a torsen and a Quaife the same...or is rthere a difference?
from what I have seen of a Quaife it uses wormwheel/gears
However, where are you finding prices of £1k for the ATB? On my RST I am finding prices of £650 with it being less if I had a RWD Escort! I'd have thought it would be a similar price for a Clio.
- The original Torsen T-1 (Type A) uses crossed axis helical gears to increase internal friction. The Type I can be designed for higher torque bias ratios than the Type II, but typically has higher backlash and the potential for Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) issues, and requires a precise setup/installation.
- The later Torsen T-2 (Type B) uses a parallel gear arrangement to achieve a similar effect. There is also a specialist application of the T-2, known as the T-2R (RaceMaster).
- The latest Torsen T-3 (Type C) is a planetary type differential, in that the nominal torque split is not 50:50. The Type C is available as single or twin version; the Torsen twin C differential has front and center differential in the same unit.[2]
It's because you have to start off with such a large piece of material on the jc5 atb. Shite design tbh.The diff in the video is a Torsen T1 which is what I am assuming the source of the new diff also is. These are said to lock more fiercely. The Quaife AFAIK is a T2 type of torsen diff, and may potentially have ramp angles on the gears set so that the diff does not fully lock
To quite Wikipedia (yes, I know it's not the best source):

Scrap, that, just taken a look! It seems other Renault owners can get a cheaper diff! I wonder why there is such variance in price between the 197/200 and the JC3/5 gearboxed Clios.
